Does not appear alot of ppl on this forum use these kits but I think they help to some degree. I used to have a kit on my 02 civic and could tell a difference at idle and during acceleration. Not in the way of hp gains but just an overall smoother feel to the car. Well tonight after my install I drove my 8 for about 20 mins...same results as they had on my civic. My 8 idles and accelerates smoother than before. Not a huge difference but they seem to have removed any hesitation that was present during acceleration before.

 

Why did you ground one of the wires to the plastic tray under your intake?

 

It is attached to one of the bolts that screws into the crossmember under the tray.
It is the same crossmember that the factory neg battery cable is attached to. I added that wire mainly for looks anyway.

 

Is it contacting metal (other than the bolt)? It just looks like it's either contacting plastic or the rubber grommets that are down there. Mainly for looks... gotcha.

Also, plenty of people have done this mod, there's a how-to in the DIY forum.

 

I have it sandwiched between two washers then ran the bolt threw them into the crossmember. .

 

That's a pretty cool look under that hood...matches my engine cover as well...Who makes that kit?

 

I have that same kit...bought it from fleebay. You have to be careful with this kit, to make sure everything is tight. I was having some issues with improper grounding, and the car was stalling. I have since fixed the problem.

Gains from this...not certain. Smoother idle, not in my setup. I have a lightened flywheel and aftermarket pulleys...my rpms fluctuate greatly and you can definately feel it. Maybe with a stock system the idle would be smoother?

I read a thread a while back where a guy posted before and after ohm readings...his results convinced me to buy the system.

 

I double checked all the mounting points to ensure they were tight. I have used these kits before so I know what can happen if something is loose.

 

There are a few companies that make RX8 specific kits, or you can get a universal one on ebay like the thread starter has, or you can make your own for pretty cheap too.

 

I did this to my 8 as well. Smoother idle, seems to start a little faster. For $20 off ebay you need to do this IMO.

looks nice i got like 4 grounding points on my 8. i used electric tape around all the wires so they dont stand out lol.

is this type of grounding kit where each ground wire goes from the battery terminal to the ground spot better than the type that connects from one grounding spot to the next?

 

Not sure but my guess is this setup would be better cause you are grounding each item directly to the battery.

 

technically i would think that it is better... but, i just think there is way too much wire length in these ebay kits. i run a daisy chain on mine w/ minimal wire lengths and am impressed w/ the results.

 

anyone measure any gains from grounding kits, like the suite of benefits they advertise? horsepower gains are hard to measure with or without dynos, but what about better gas mileage? this seems easy enough to do. i'm looking to get a grounding kit but would like to know that at least one of the claims really do work.

 

My car has a smoother idle and slightly better acceleration. I didn't care if I gained any hp as the mod was only $28 bucks shipped. Basically bouhgt one cause I just think they look nice.
