Need an exhaust recomendation.

Hey all,

I am looking to get an aftermarket exhaust for my RX8 and I need someone to point me in the right direction.

I am looking for an exhaust with stock like sound, more or less, at idle and normal crusing speeds and a more agressive sound at higher RPM's.

What can you guys suggest from your experiences.

THANKS!

HKS.... definitely the way to go IMO, of course, I am a little biased since I've got one.

The mazdaspeed exhaust will do what you want. It's pretty much the closest thing to stock, it makes a bit more sound at higher rpms. The problem is, you're spending hundreds of dollars for a minor change to your system, most people prefer something more drastic for that much coin.

I took my time in buying an exhaust. I looked at all of the exhaust systems available and went for what had the best note in the online sound clips... the borla really sounds great. Unfortunately the borla is likely the ugliest exhaust available, and the design is a bit weird.

Here's how my borla sounds - I think it's an accurate representation (some clips online can make an exhaust sound louder, softer, or change the note due to artifacts in compression, mic sensitivity, etc), but this video sounds close to the real thing.

Well here are a few you should look into...

HKS
Racing Beat
GReddy
Borla

These are the ones I have heard the most Positive Comment about.

However, I plan on purchasing the GReddy Exhaust System sometime around this X~Mas

I had a hard time deciding when I wanted to buy mine. I went with the Racingbeat. It sounds great. It has 4 in tips that compliment the rear of the car very well. I got mine for $610 shipped. I am very happy with it. Here are some pics of it on and a sound clip. http://www.rx8web.com/showthread.php?threadid=277 Good luck in your search.

Racing Beat, Racing Beat, Racing Beat. Simply the best.
Their name is synonimous with quality.

Go to www.mazdatrix.com (exhaust section) and you can see & hear all the exhausts. I personally have Racing Beat. I thought the tips for the Mazda Speed were a bit small, and I did not like the rolled tips on the Greddy but all have great quality.

if you want something stock sounding go with mazdaspeed. It will deliver the qualities you want w/o the oversized tips (matter of preference). Definetly high quality exhaust.

From what I understand, MazdaSpeed is the exhaust you want. The tips are smallish tho. Personally I love my Greddy, it's much throatier than the stock and does pick up volume as you make your way up the RPM band.

Good luck in your search - lots of good recommendations on here already.

What's the weight of the Racing Beat exhaust compared to stock ? Hopefully it's a lot lighter so I have more justification for spending $600 for 3 hp and better sound!

I have the Racing Beat exhaust and it is not much lighter, but in my opinion was the best sounding of the aftermarket exhausts. The stock exhaust weightabout 37-38 lbs. I would say the RB is probably in the low to mid 30's. About the only way you are going to save a substantial amount of weight is to go full titanium (JIC, Amuse, Magnaflow) but is is much more expensive. Weight goes from about 10 lbs. to 20 lbs. when you convert to Titanium.

Espelir's exhaust is pleasant. Great worksmanship. Another JDM product.
