I think the car itself is a testament to that.
Yeah, I understand that. I would never want to give up my torque again. The Greddy kit is a decent kit for the price (bang for the buck). The new one might be a bit better (what the original one should have been). I think the PTP & SFR are more thought out/tested, as I'm sure the Mazsport one might be as well. One thing in working with Jon over at PTP is the customer service is about 10X better than when I was dealing with Greddy. The good thing about being a smaller shop is the more personal service I guess.

Today I found a shop here in knoxville that would do the install. They quoted me 3200.00 for the newest kit from greddy (they said was currently on back order) + 500.00 for the install/tune/dyno. Does that sound pretty decent?

the greddy price is about right, sometimes you can get a few hundred lower though.

the install cost is about half what it usually costs.

Yeah, that is a really good deal, but I suspect they will either give you a half-assed tune or come back at you with a bigger number after they start playing with it.
But I might be wrong. Depends on their skill and interest.

The price of the kit went up after they added the EMU.

on the other hand, paying more for the install doesn't mean you'll get a good tune either...

Absolutely true.
Actually, I've found that there is a break-over point at which you start paying more for less.
