Question Most effective upgrades for your money.

So im buying an 8 from my friend in a few days (2004 equivalent of the R3 package *not sure what thats called on a 04 model* 62100miles) and i plan on throwing some money at upgrading it. I am still in school so im not rich but i do have 1500$ to spend. I plan on spending about 300-400$ on subwoofers (plz dont tell me its a waste as music/rx8's/tech is my passion and I LOVE me some dubstep thus need me some bass!) so that leaves about 1100$ for performance and asthetic upgrades. I would like to get a new spoiler because I have seen pics with aftermarket ones and I LOVE the way they look even with the stock body kit. so in the end i have about 800-900$ left.

With that kind of budget I'm not looking for or expecting crazy HP gains but basicly my question is what will get me the most bang for my buck thats under 1,000 big ones (USD)

P.S. when i get out of school and get a job, I plan on putting a turbo on it (probably greddy) with a synchronic BoV so if theres anything I can do now that will benifit me even more when I install the turbo that would be nice.

thanks for all the help

Put on your flame suit and expect to get napalmed with demands that you search.

Your post clearly indicates that you know nothing about this car, and have a long way to go.

Rather than reposting everything new owners should know, I happen to have typed everything up already. Start here: https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/new-potential-owners-start-here-202454/

A) There is no 2004 "R3 equivalent"
B) $1,500 gets you almost nothing on this car
C) "crazy" HP isn't possible on this engine
D) moderate HP is only possible once you cross the $10,000 cost point
E) your turbo plans show you don't know the smallest detail about turboi'ing this engine (it isn't easy, simple, pre-canned, or even wise)
F) Not having a job is a pretty damn good way to not have an RX-8. Sure, get it now, but you won't be able to keep it, either from expense driving it away or negligence destroying it.

Pull together $6,000 for normal ownership costs for the first 30,000 miles of ownership. Anything past that you can then start thinking about mods.

Cobb access port or racing mid pipe. best bang for your buck, but I wouldn't get the 8 if you don't have money to throw at it. my clutch pedal broke two days ago. parts $200 and labor is free cause i do my own. last month, maf sensor went out, spark plugs are $25 a piece. It isn't cheap, but if you love what the car is and will spend the money to take care of it, then its a good car. Don't get it cause you like it, get it cause you have respect for what it is. I also replaced my clutch master cylinder this past weekend $100. I have an 04 with 158,ooo miles on it. I'm not trying to scare you away, but you don't have a job and I was at that point once and had my car and it was hard.. ended up destroying my engine cause i couldn't affor oil changes every 3000-4000 miles.

+1

I plan on spending more than your budget on general maintenance and wear items this winter while it's not being driven.

The Search exhaust is pretty nice

You also can't miss out on some Homework Headers.

I sometimes wish there were a forum on this website where people could talk about performance parts that have worked for them so i could SEARCH all of the information posted by previous forum members who have done their HOMEWORK for me.

ugh

It sucks not having that kind of forum to draw information from at any given time. It would be so convenient! People like the OP would be SO RELIEVED if that kind of information were around.

ugh.

thanks a ton for all the help(sarcasm)
yea i dont know alot about the car but i came here to learn it
i know theres no 2004 r3 equiv but its the alternate trim/better engine one im not sure what its called so i said that
i wasnt expecting much for 1500$ i clearly stated that
i wasnt expecting crazy hp i was talking about large gains such as adding a turbo/supercharger
i dont know much about turboing all i know is that once i get out of school i should be making enough money (electrical engineering) to afford it and the costs that go with it

i came here to learn more about the car i will be buying. i have read enough about it to know the problems it has and how to maintain it under daily use however, i dont know much about aftermarket upgrades on this car... heck, i dont know much about aftermarket upgrades of regular engines. all i realy know is what each part does. i want this car for a few reasons,
1: i love the looks
2: i love the price
3: i like being different and rotorys are just that... diferent (besides after my research i like them better than other engine types)
4: i like the 9k redlines
5: i like how smooth the engine runs and feels
6: i like the tight cornering and ballenced weight of the rx series cars
7: i just like everything about the car

it seems that unless i am all knowing about the rx8 i shouldnt be here and if i was i wouldnt be here in the first place so at this rate im not so much considering coming back to this forum

RESEARCH

ALL THE INFO IS ALREADY HERE.

It is very easy to be "ALL KNOWING" if you're willing to READ WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN DISCUSSED IN DETAIL BY OTHER FORUM MEMBERS.
