how thick are those things?

AJ's Shinka 01-19-2009 08:06 PM

^^^Interesting, I was able to connect it back together and put it in the bung but it was a tight stretch. Good news, no CEL thus far and I took it for a drive today! I think that little spring on the o2 sensor is the problem to my tiny vibration. I can live with it but I'm a stickler when it comes to my car. :) brb.

Alrzorz- how's it coming?

I didn't see this...

Q: what gaskets did you say you tore? the stock cat ones? or the ones provided to you with the midpipe?

The stock cat doesn't use any gaskets (you'll see when you take it out) and they just end up braking so I didn't use them. It was the front one closest to the header looks like a triangle. Most people left them out due to them blowing all the time anyhow. We didn't use a lift just a little jack and crawled underneath. Did I tell you all the bolts in the front are going to brake? I have worked on 3 of these already and each time they stripped or broke so don't get alarmed if they do. Did you get bolts with your midpipe from setsuwa? Because you won't be reusing your stock bolts.

:dunno:

spacers are half inch...?

another way I was thinking was to use some washers and longer bolts...but I don't know how well that would work

AJ's Shinka 01-19-2009 08:11 PM

Damn you guys post fast

I want this, you sell to me REX. What are those blocks made of plastic? I can probably find something that will suffice. I left the flimsy cross members off, they suck anyhow. I'll just buy some sway bars and call it a day.

I've taken off my stock CAT.. there are definitely 2 gaskets there. One in the front and one in the rear. One is a ring and the other is a donut. The donut is fairly expensive.. $45 each. Neither of them will fit the Mazsport Midpipe.. which is why I gave up on my install when I did. I had to get gaskets that worked and Fluid Motorsports got me the exact hardware that came with the Mazsport Midpipe originally.. hopefully that'll arrive tomorrow.

I had my cat off a week and a half ago.. that is when I realized all this stuff... kinda late.. so I had to put it all back together.

I was thinking that also.. washers and longer bolts would do?

I did not see these at all! is it possible that I overlooked them? Rex did your stock cat have gaskets? :sweatdrop Glad I posted this and the whole time I thought I was helping you. :)

05rex8 01-19-2009 11:15 PM

yup, mine had gaskets. In fact I used them for my agency power midpipe before I sold it.

np dude, everything does help... if not to me then to anyone else reading a thread down the road.

this is the gasket in between the exhaust manifold and the stock cat:

and this is the "donut" gasket between the stock cat and the catback:

05rex8 01-19-2009 11:26 PM

I have one of these I'm not using...didn't use it with my turbo downpipe....didn't see a reason to.
I just remembered that... :)

and these are the ones that are going to be used with the Mazsport Midpipe

Whew, I just took a look at my cat, and the gaskets are on there. We were working in the dark with just a spotlight and didn't even see them. I am relieved.

Man that midpipe sounds sweet. Did I mention my car is a lot faster now and smoother? My cat must have been really clogged. It feels like this is the way the Renesis was designed to run. :smoker:

alz0rz 01-27-2009 01:23 AM

All I have to say is WOW.

This midpipe is freaking amazing.

My dad got me some time to use the lift as his shop and I finally got it on with the gaskets provided to me by Brice @ Fluid Motorsports.

http://implux.net/~alz0rz/images/mdrm1.JPG

http://implux.net/~alz0rz/images/mdrm2.JPG

My dad's ingenuity.. voila spacers! It now has perfect clearance. I can keep my crossmembers.

http://implux.net/~alz0rz/images/mdrm3.JPG

Had to play around with the o2 sensor harness to get it to reach.

http://implux.net/~alz0rz/images/mdrm4.JPG

Afterwards I went on some nitrous spraying runs and OMG it's freaking beautiful. I wasn't really a flame guy until it happened.. and I nearly creamed. Right at the cusp of redline.

AJ's Shinka 01-27-2009 01:30 AM

Very nice! Was it just washers you used on the cross members? It is a really nice piece, makes you wish Mazsport didn't go out of business. This mod is a toss up between my AFE short shifter and the Mazsport midpipe for my favorite mod.

alz0rz 01-27-2009 01:35 AM

It's a longer bolt with 2 washers and a nut fitted in between. The clearance is perfect. I bet I could cooerce my dad into making a set of 8 for you if you'd like to pay shipping or something.

AJ's Shinka 01-27-2009 01:48 AM

Man that would be great, just tell me how much. Is that yellow stuff on the gaskets anti-seize?

05rex8 01-27-2009 10:23 PM

congrats man, well worth the wait, eh?

alz0rz 01-27-2009 10:56 PM

Ah yes. The cool thing is at normal city driving it doesn't at all sound any different than the stock cat mated to my Borla, however at WOT or anything over 6k.. a different story. ;)

AJ's Shinka 01-28-2009 12:19 AM

Very nice I might consider this Borla setup.:squint:

alz0rz 01-28-2009 12:20 AM

Racing Beat is a bit more on the conservative side, the Borla has a deeper grunt and growl.

AJ's Shinka 01-28-2009 12:43 AM

At first I thought I wanted to be conservative but the more I think about it I want that growl.
