Mazsport Midpipe owners

What hardware did it originally come with? I picked up this midpipe from someone else with no hardware... And none of the stock stuff will work correctly..

nope-- buy good thick aluminum gaskets from Mr Gasket--rest of it is np.

what about the studs where the spring loaded bolts go into the exhaust? and how about header-side..

did you get new straight bolts or did you reuse the stock stuff?

for the front flange you can just go buy some stainless steel bolts with nuts and lock washers. for the rear flange you need to either re-use or get new springs studs from Mazda. those studs are a bitch to find but i can give you some good ideas on how to acquire some.

alz0rz 01-09-2009 02:06 PM

how did you reuse the studs that have the nuts spot welded onto the cat? I got the studs out but no nut... and the hole on the midpipe is much bigger..

nuke0907 01-09-2009 02:10 PM

the studs on the front flange with 3 bolts i just went and bought new hardware from an auto parts store. just make sure the bolts you get go through the holes and use a lock washer with the nut. maybe put a little anti-seize on the threads unless you don't car about buying new ones if you decide to take it off.

alz0rz 01-09-2009 02:15 PM

what about in the rear?

HockeyRX-8 01-09-2009 02:18 PM

Also......what about gaskets? because the stock gaskets are clearly not big enough for the pipe. I helped him try to install it today with no luck.

nuke0907 01-09-2009 02:27 PM

i don't have a mazsport but i'd figure if it should work with other exhausts then you should be able to re-use the gaskets. i have an rx7store midpipe with HKS hi-power and i re-used the stock gaskets.

for the rear flange you need to hold your cat back up to it. guide the studs through the catback flange and thread them into the midpipe flange. then install the spring and thread the nut on. make sure not to tighten the nut too much because it will seize.

if you need new studs try going to your mazda dealer and asking the service department if they are replacing any bad cats. then ask if you can have the old studs. they install new studs with the new cat so they will have extra studs. thats what i did and they gave them to me for free. otherwise you will pay something like $9 each or more for new ones. hope this helps. i think i have part numbers too if you need them.

alz0rz 01-09-2009 02:42 PM

^ but the nuts for those studs are welded onto the cat.. so I assume you mean with new nuts? or am I missing something..

nuke0907 01-09-2009 02:52 PM

there aren't any nuts welded to the cat. can you show me a pic of what you are talking about. i've taken my exhaust apart many times and i don't recall what you are talking about.

alz0rz 01-09-2009 02:55 PM

ray! take a pic!

nuke0907 01-09-2009 02:59 PM

the rear flange(2 bolt) holes are threaded inside if thats what you mean, or they might weld a nut on instead.

alz0rz 01-09-2009 03:02 PM

nuke, gonna get a pic for you in a few min...

I'm surpised you don't know what im talking about.. the studs In the rear thread into the nuts that are welded onto the cat!

nuke0907 01-09-2009 03:03 PM

ok, now look at your new midpipe. is the rear holes threaded?

yeah that is definitely a nut.. atleast on mine and hockey's stock
cat..

nuke0907 01-09-2009 03:07 PM

ok, so the stock one may have a nut welded on, but the Mazsport one might just be a threaded hole. if its threaded you don't need another nut and you don't need one welded on.

nope... the mazsport just has the two holes..

curious as to what any other mazsport owner did...

nuke0907 01-09-2009 03:12 PM

just found this pic in the FS section. does your holes look like this?

alz0rz 01-09-2009 03:18 PM

^ nope :(

nuke0907 01-09-2009 03:21 PM

well there's your problem. i'm not sure what to use there besides getting a nut welded in. that should have came with it.

the only other things that you cannot re-use are the front 3 bolts. you will need to go buy some.

alz0rz 01-09-2009 03:42 PM

ok.. but I have to be missing something here.. getting new hardware or having nuts replaced/welded is something that other people would have mentioned... especially if the midpipe came with no hardware..

nuke0907 01-09-2009 04:14 PM

well my midpipe didn't come with hardware either. most of it you can re-use except for the front 3 bolts, which you will have to go buy. its unfortunate that your holes aren't threaded. they should have came that way.

alz0rz 01-09-2009 04:16 PM

anyone with a mazsport pipe? how did you deal with the rear?
