Mazdaspeed Intake mesh help

Hey guys,

I searched this forum using the search bar to find how the mesh goes in the Mazdaspeed Intake. My car has been running rough and idling off and hesitating below 5500RPMs. I got new plugs and wires rebuilt by BHR (Thanks Charles!) and it helped but I got curious to see if my intake was messed up and found that the mesh was not sitting right in the pipe. I typed in everything from Mazdaspeed Intake diagram to DIY and couldn't find anything. I unfortunately don't have the directions so I was hoping that somebody might know how the mesh goes in there (I have two) and if there is a diagram or pictures showing how they go in. I normally don't post threads often as I can find just about everything I need already posted but for the life of me can't find anything Any help would be great. Thanks!

It is made by AEM and basically identical so you may want to see if you can track some directions on their website or forum too

I downloaded the AEM pdf file and they apparently only have one screen that goes in the coupler, which I will install, but I don't know where the second one goes. I don't know if it needs two in the same place (it couldn't because it won't fit) and if there needs to be one after the MAF sensor.

In that AEM manual, look at page 11 step F and then page 12 step G
Keep in mind... when you purchase the AEM intake new, the couplers come with the screens already installed, so it won't tell you how to install them.

Well fwiw the hesitation issue is likely something else, I don't run any screens in my custom CAI and while not as smooth as stock it doesn't really act up much at idle unless there is some other issue

You are awesome too.

I'm hoping it is just the screens. Its happened before when I had my stock intake box in there. The mesh fell off into the box and when I put it back it worked normal. I talked to the service guys at the dealership and told them what happened and they said the screen needs to be there so that there is an even flow before it hits the MAF and the mesh smoothens out the air. It made sense to me.

I installed the mesh finally, and it worked great, except when I was sitting there I revved it once it was warmed up and when the revs died down it was acting as if it wanted to stall. I decided to drive it then I was going over in my head why it could be doing that as the plugs, wires and mesh and everything is all set. Then it hit me that I didn't put the vacuum hoses on. I pulled over, put them in and it runs perfect. Definitely not one of my brightest moments. Thanks to the both of you guys for your help. I greatly appreciate it.
