I'm about to receive my ms air intake. I know it wont really help with hp, but on past cars it did kind of help with gas mileage. Who am I kidding I just like the sound.
Anyone have any pointers on installation? Any pointers would be helpful.

I dont have Mazdaspeed CAI (or AEM)

but I do know that, all you need to do is just take your bumper off. thats the most difficult part and its not difficult at all.

 

It isnt difficult at all to install. Saying that, i had my dealer install it since they offered to do it at no charge.

 

Hmm, you have to take the bumper + the VFAD off completely. Is not hard, just go easy, give yourself some time. You can do it.

 

I have the AEM intake (which is the same design as the MS CAI)... not hard at all to install.
Biggest "challenge" you'll encounter is removing the front bumper (which afterwards you'll realize its no big deal) and removing the VFAD unit (which isn't difficult as long as you know what the whole VFAD assembly is).
Not sure if the MS CAI comes with instructions (I'm assuming it does), but if it doesn't or you just want to compare documents (since it is the same design) I can send you a PDF of the AEM installation. Just send me a PM.

I like AEM's instructions better only because they include actual pictures of the installation step-by-step... makes it simple for noobs to follow.

Thanks for the input guys. I thought it would be similar to the AEM intake. Now it's just a matter of finding a warmer day to do the installation.

Curious from those who've installed the ms/aem, do you really have to remove the strut bar and foam?

 

what i dont get is why is the main straight piping in so many different pieces? why do they have like 3 or 4 individual pieces when they could have just had 1 longer piece. what are the benefits?

 

Well, in the space between some of the long stretch of piping is room for the provided screens. I wonder if we could go without one of the screens like with the oem box though..
