Looking for exhaust for rx8. Questions about best choice.
My friend just got a 2004 RX8. Were looking for a good exhaust system for it, one that will give the best gaines were not really worried about how it will sound.
We looked at that summary thread that mentioned the Greddy Header-Back system has 22hp gains but when we asked our local shop they told us Greddy doesn't make header-back systems. Only Cat back systems, and that we'd need to purchase header and downpipes seperately.
Im kinda of confused about all this so can someone help out a bit.
If you can provide a part number or name or anything of my best choice that would be great. What setup should we choose. Mainly interested in Greddy. Thanks.

andrew, welcome to the 8 club!
First the bad news: Exhausts on our cars don't really provide big hp gains. Trust me, the manufacturer claims are mostly bs
Pick the one you guys like the sound of the best.

Alright well we've been looking around and were pretty much decided on a 3inch, deep sounding exhaust. Deep sounding like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut3AFHOF0ZM
We just cant really find an Xforce distributor here in Canada.
Were more concerned about having a deep sounding exhaust over the 3 inch, but having both would be great.
If anyone knows an idea of what were looking for please help.
Thanks.

When you say you're not worried about the sound do you mean you don't care how loud it is, what bass the note is, if you care about cabin noise, or whether or not it's legal?
The only way to get real, noticable gains is to replace your midpipe with either a racing pipe (resonated or non-resonated) or with a high-flow cat (resonated or non-resonated). The HF cat is signifcantly more expensive but keeps your car emissions legal. HF cats tend to wear significantly faster than OEM cats. Replacing your catback will help a little but that's not where the real gains are. All told replacing your cat and catback with a race pipe and large catback might net you ~15 crank HP untuned. Tuned you can probably squeek out a little more.
Racing Beat and Agency Power both sell systems that include a midpipe replacement and catbacks and both are popular enough that you can find plenty of clips. Borla and Hymee both produce nice, deep resonating and well made catbacks. HKS is popular for weight reduction. Greddy is relatively popular because it's cheap as hell.

Borla is also a good choice for an agressive tone

IMO, the HKS single sided exhaust is the way to go if performance is the only thing you're after. All cat-backs give pretty much the same increase in horsepower, but the HKS has the advantage of weighing about half as much as most other cat-backs (excluding dual sided titanium cat-backs, but those are way more expensive). Not sure on midpipes but I hear thats where the meat of your power gains are going to be from. A full header-back system is going to be loud as hell though and I wouldn't install one for a daily driven RX8. Just my .2

I am told the Borla is a good unit, and the sound clips are pretty good. Also, check out Fluid Motorsports, a vendor on this site. They have a really nice website. In their RX-8 "exhaust" section, their is a neat catback system (forgot the name) with blue dual muffler cannisters and blue tips. It sounds grrrrreat!
Good luck.

Alright my mind is set on the exoticspeed r1-t. it sounds good, but the piping is 3 inch and i was just wondering if this is a good choice for power aswell, and if backpressure would be lost resulting in lost hp?
