What is the lightest cat-back exhaust and the price if known?

The Titanium JIC's are really light (I believe that is the company name). I think they are about 60% lighter than stock.

Also consider the RP super cat (and some of its issues). It is 11lbs which is 11lbs lighter than stock.

RP supercat is a cat-back system right? How much does it cost? By the way, i believe the stock exhaust is 39 pounds.

 

No the RP Supercat is the replacement for the catalytic/resonator part of the piping. The stock one weighs quite a bit. The SR Motorsports & RP units save about 10-12 lbs. from that section. That cat back goes from the end of the RP supercat.

 

Oh. Sorry so the cat-back system goes on after the supercat. it doesnt come with its own converter?

No, that's not the way it works. From the engine it goes in 3 parts : 1) Exhaust manifold (also called the header) 2) Catalytic convertor & resonator (also called silencer) 3) Cat back system (includes pipe & mufflers).

I wasn't able to dyno the car, but it felt good, especially at medium-high rpm range.
well, as you already know it is expensive... as a part it costs 150,000JPY, but that's in japan, I got it in my hands at about 1350euros.

Well my ported 2nd gen rx7 has aluminum exhaust, been about a year and a half now... Remember, the rotor housings are aluminum too.


Side note to this thread. Has anyone thought about making a custom setup at an exhaust shop? Say putting a single muffler where the piping is still straight, then run it to the back with dual tips. That could be made pretty light, but it might be a tad loud.

 

I know RB is developing a single exhaust that will drop some pounds off for people looking to reduce weight, without spending tons of money.

 

well I suppose if it was thick enough to dissipate the heat, the rotor housing is water cooled, it could probably be lighter with light gauge inconel

Yes I know the housings are cooled, but still. There are people that run the older peripheral exhaust housings with NO sleeves in the exhaust port, which makes it just open aluminum as the exhaust exits. They have absolutely no problems doing that and I guarantee it's a lot hotter than anywhere else in the system. Because it is the exhaust port there is only coolant above and below to cool, and it's not a lot.

Anyways, this argument is stupid because people will have different beliefs, but I have my catback made of aluminum and it works fine, that's all I have to work off of as well as what the people experience running no sleeves for their exhaust ports to dissipate the heat.

 

I think that'll look really dumb though since the rx8 has the openings for 2 tips

It looks bad enough when a 2nd gen does it with just cutouts, and I can stand those, but there are actual holes for the rx8 and I think it'd just look odd.

 

when you're racing it looks a lot odder when you're staring at your competitors exhaust pipe rather than the other way around

most racers aren't out there to be pimping around the track
