K&N Typhoon Intake OR Rotary Extreme Cold Air Intake???
K&N Typhoon Intake OR Rotary Extreme Cold Air Intake???
This question keeps spinning in my mind the last few weeks...
I am going to change the stock intake and i am considering of buying one of the 2...
I have read many good things about the both of them but people keep saying that the K&N has many more problems and no gain in tq and hp at all.I ahve also read that K&N 'eats' some tq....
The price is 260 and 360 i think...I don't care about the price...
The K&N also takes air from the motor unless u make a custom job and place a cover...The RE intake has a polished cover in tha package and it takes air only from the outside...
RE also gives some tq in high and very low rpms and gives some lost hp back on the weels...
I think that the most of u have seen some pics from both intakes...If u want tell me to post..I think that in look the K&N is better but not much better than RE..
I am also suspicious about the quality of the K&N intake cause it was the first company that produces an intake and i believe very soon...I don't think they have the time to learn the rx-8 motor...
Please Vote!!!
Thanks at all.And PLEASEEEEEEE HELP ME MAKE A DESICION...

If price isn't an issue, you might want to consider/ research into SR Motorsports intake. IMO it's the best looking (albeit the most expensive @ $460.00) aftermarket intake available, although as with the K&N and the RE intake, you probably won't get much hp or torque increase. The general mentality floating around the forum seems to be that mazda did a great job designing the stock intake system, and an aftermarket one is more for aesthetics and sound than anything else.

Yeah, I had the K&N Intake; it was definitely much louder than stock! I didn't have a problem with it - actually thought it sounded great - but my girlfriend thought it was embarrassingly loud and took away from the quiet smoothness of the rotary engine's acceleration. Althought the K&N made my Rx8 sound more aggresive, my butt dyno didn't notice any performance gains. Unlike some other members on the forum, however, I never noticed a rough idle or throttle hesitation when I had it installed.

It seems the RE intake was much more thought out and purposeful for the RX8. One of the RE reps. has been on the board and has explained the "quirks" of the RX8, and why RE designed the intake the way they did. The K&N just seems like they modified one of the other SRI's into the RX8 kit and are now selling it without thinking about some of the issues and doing their homework. So the noise is excessive, and there is an idling issue with the new K&N intake.

i am thinking about getting a cold air intake with my existing borla exhaust for my 04 MT RX-8. ive read what both rotary extreme and K & N have to offer. most people see problems with the k & n but there is not much on RE exhaust and i would like to learn more. plus the RE website says some RX8 models have diferent intake sensory so no matter what intake you get, extra power will not be seen. is this true and does ther RE website "test" really check if you have the "bs" RX -8? ? ? ? ?? ? ?
