K&N intake question.

Stuck in a love triangle
I heard that the K&N intake gets really loud -- producing around 90b when youre flooring it. But theyre right. Afteryou get used to it youwont even care about the noise pollution it makes. Id never buythat intake though b/c while it sounds powerful the horsepower gain it actually makes is pathetic. I dont personally believe in making something sound fast that just isnt.

Yes it does work with an auto. I just reinstalled mine last night and love it. I took it out to have some work done at the dealer. I am awaiting the Racing Beat intake and will replace the K&N then. Till then I'm going to enjoy my K&N

It is really loud and takes a few weeks to get used to. Altough people always tell me how great my car sounds, believe it or not i havent really heard it on the outside lol. But yea it sounds hot from what i heard (racingbeat exhaust, k&n intake). 4-5 months no bad idling.

I just took my K&N out (10/2/04) after about 5k miles with it. I have 7,500 miles on my 8. My initial impression is throttle response is better with the factory intake; I'm going to give it some more time but I personally believe (and confirm) the K&N intake WILL rob torque - especially low end.

Yes it's loud, but when people hear it, especially import people they are like HOLY **** that sounds awesome... then I usually say (in my best 'lil Jon voice) "HAWHAAAT?"
I definitely can also feel the difference when the ports on the intake open at 3750. Then again over 5 grand. The entire pitch of the engine changes noticably throughout the rev range when the different ports open.
I mainly installed this mod not for HP gains but for show points. So that people at car shows don't look at "just another stock RX-8 engine bay".

K&N on mine and throttle response is better around mid-range (3-5) and no longer feels like it's starting to choke past about 8. You can definitely stay in gear longer before torque drops off.
IMHO it needs an airbox though, not just a heat shield, because that badboy is WARM after spirited driving.
It is a shade too loud in the cabin though - I think there's a resonance somewhere.j

I took out my K&N after about 10k. It was on the loud side and became annoying. I just installed the SR intake which although is expensive, sounds much better, and looks better. It is supposed to yield 5-8 HP, as per SR Motorsports (Gregg). I have been asking SR to post a better picture of their exhaust system and possibly an audio clip since I have all the bolt ons as their project car less the exhaust.
