Is it just me or is the K&N intake LOUD!!

I just installed my K&N intake system on my 8, and I've had other cars with intakes but wow, this kit screams over 4K. Definately wasn't expecting that much of a pitch change or increase in power. So pleased with this kit for the RX-8

Did you read any of the reviews on here about it? I think every single person who has it on their 8 says the same thing.

Gratz on the mod!

This probably shouldn't be in the major horsepower upgrades section...

(yeah, not exactly a major hp upgrade)

But yeah, I had my stock intake on for a few months and just put the K&N v.2 back on this weekend, and damn that thing is a beast.

I think a little too loud for my taste actually. It is so much louder, and such a different pitch, that it creates new rattles for me It instantaneously recreated the rattle from my Supercat that I thought was fixed when I had the heat shield re-welded.

Sure, it's nasty at WOT and high rpm, but I'm not sure I'm going to keep it.

While low rpm torque may have decreased slightly, it does make for smoother and more consistent acceleration throughout the rev range. And, all noise aside, I do think it helps with acceleration after 4500rpm or so, plus you can't feel the ports opening as drastically as with stock intake.

Anyone want to buy an intake?

I read most comments about the K&N, I heard that the racing beat intake is even louder. Ha ha I have all the same vibrations and what not, kind of annoying but I don't really hammer on the throttle that much, but I am pleased with it 110%. It is a round filter, I believe it is the v.2. Yes if it is a new kit unused you have to oil the filter, its simple. What is the rated HP gain off the K&N intake?

Ooo asking THAT question and posting in the wrong section... Rookie mistakes, and you hate to see it.

You might want to search a bit, a lot have people have discussed that intake on other threads.

yeah, the HP figure on the K&N take was a hot topic when the intake first came out. I'll give you the very condensed version: version 1 dynos showed ZERO horsepower increase for some users. Some even LOST hp because of it.
Version2 was believed to fix the rough idel caused by version 1 but the HP never got close to what K&N claimed.
You'll probably get 2-4 horses on an intake. The big key is to get your car more air and colder if possible. Don't worry too much about the HP figures, they're not really there for any intake. (at least not more then the usual 2-5)

RB intake is NOT louder then K&N.

sorry for bothering you fisherdn, I am new to this, just don't read this thread, I had a few questions and comments to make about my intake because I was excited, don't be such a buzzkill. But thank you to everyone else for your responses, I'll make sure I don't place something in the "wrong thread" next time.

your barking up the wrong tree looking for hp gain through an intake for the rx-8...ask for some help in a re-direction to the turbo/supercharger threads

hmm, I probably got used to my K&N V2. I think its loud only if I go more than 30% throttle.

Im the OLDEST K&N Version 2 owner on this forum and Im dare to say it does NOT have 10hp increase ... they probably dyno it on a bad time or something on the first run. Thats why the second run seems to have 10 hp increase. remember our car stock dyno to be around 170~ whp, on K&N's chart it was what I think 168 on stock? and 178 on K&N. which is about the same.

Im still wondering what my car will look like on a Dyno ... oh yeah tomorrow morning Im free ...
