interchangeable ring and pinion gears

Ok we can all attest that the 2004person rx8 does not have the torquest engine. I have been thinking about changing out the 4.44 and putting in 4.77. The only problem is, the gears made are around $700. I have talked to a few others and was told rx8 gears are interchangeable with many other kinds. Is that true and could I just replace the entire diff instead if only the ring and pinion. Help!

Yes It is a direct swap putting in the 4.77, Ive got one waiting to go in after more funds come. But yea the total cost give or take depending on your connections is going to be around $1300.

if you are going to the trouble to change your gear ratio--then tear the diff down and send all the bearings/gears etc off for metal treatment and coating. I like microblues work, but choose your own. Look at the some you tube vids on how this can free up the diff. Do some reading on it. Its not a joke, its not something that will give you 20 hp, but everything helps and it doesnt cost THAT much.

please use the search function before posting new threads on old, well covered subjects

the short answer is I've yet to see anything interchange except the FD3 gears

3.91, 4.10, 4.44, 4.77, 5.12 are what I recall off the top of my head

if you think $700 is too much then you might want to consider trading in
