Intakes....

:D Hey guys just lookin for some opinions, not looking to get flamed on here and yes i do know how to use the search button but there are far to many posts to go read through.......anyway, i am in search of an intake and these are what im deciding between, the HKS Racing Suction, Aem Cold Air, and the REvi....now i just want some opionons on those and suggestiosn.......i know im not going to get substantial power out of any of these but im looking to pick up a couple of hp's....and i want to enhance the rotory sound so what intake would you think would enhance the sound the best.....im leaning towards the HKS because it seem slike the most direcet flow and looks the nicest........let me know guys thanks!!!

They will all give you a couple of horsepower gain and they will all change the way the car sounds. Everyone knows what I like so if I say it again, people will flame me for being "biased" even though everyone else also has their opinion and is just as biased in some form or fashion. Choose the one you like and then go from there. There are people that will defend each system. This thread will inevitably turn into a flame fest for people who like one or another. Don't base your judgement on what it "looks" like the air does. You can't see airflow. Even if you could, you couldn't see what pressure it is at. Air is funny stuff. It doesn't always do what you think it will. I know which one I personally believe is better and why but there are those that disagree so I will just save it. The best thing to do is to find out who has what and how they like it. Then base your own judgement from there. You'll have to sort through all the bs though but in the end, hopefully you will have made a decision based on your own judgement and not that of others.

i just put the aem in and i like it. pretty quiet off throttle, step into it and it starts to growl, once the tertiary's open, it sounds alot like an exotic. according to scanalyser, airflow significantly increased as well.

if you are doing the install yourself, it is a pain. have to take off front bumper and bumper support.

i've got the hks racing suction. Since day one never had a problem with it. It idles smooth. it was dynoed on a friends car and made a few extra horsies. On top of that it sounds great. Not loud like k&n's but louder than racing beats (if thats what you want). The kit comes complete with everything you need but it is one of the more expensive kits out there.

Here are some video samples of the intake with hks exhaust.

Yeah, I think you have the three ones that seem the best. May want to wait & see how lurch does on the dyno. The AEM has just come out, and a very few people on this board have it. The RB REVi & HKS have been around for a while. Haven't heard of any problems on either of them.

ive looked at all the intakes myself, but i chose to go with racing beat, the revi honestly its loud but a buddy of mine has the first k&n intake, the decibel level was like 20-30 Db difference, mine u wont even hear the intake till at least about 4k 4.5k rpms, but if u get the intake be like me i chose to go 3" catback with the racing beat exhaust, some ppl say go 2.5" but i chose 3" so that way whichever forced induction i choose to go through exhaust wont be a restriction.

Bump thread.

Does anyone have an opinion on the SR Motorsports' CAI?

I'm thinking of going with their GT-4 package, that also includes the pulleys, midpipe & exhaust.

Any insight, opinions, experiences are greatly appreciated in advance.

im just gonna get a k&n drop in filter and take out one of the mesh screens, im guaranteed to free up at least 1 whp, and it is the cheapest way.

will taking out one of the mesh screens really free up some horsepower? i mean dropping in a higher flowing filter would do it unless the meshes are real restrictive. but idk i changed my filter at night so i couldnt see it much.

Post a pic of where the filter is if you could please.

racing beat says for every mesh screen you take out, it will free up 1 hp. there are only two, so you dont want to take out both, then you have the chance of idling bad. if you dont believe me, got to racingbeat.com go to the revi intake for the 8, and go to the FAQ on there. the first sentence will explain all.

Removing the two panels inside the factory box, which are held in place with screws, exposes more surface area of the filter directly to the incoming air. You also want to remove the screen closes to the air filter.

Yes, RB's claims are 1 hp per mesh screen removed. Considering that RB is indeed a reputable source I wouldn't really doubt this. Having 1 mesh screen removed is what is recommended for the installation of the REVi intake, in order to keep a smoother idle and have less of a chance of any problems occuring. However, I have heard of people removing both mesh screens in their aftermarket and even OEM intake with little to no negative effect. It makes sense though that less screens would give you more power due to the fact that air can flow more freely and directly without being somewhat obstructed by a piece of metal with holes all over it. Personally, i kept 1 screen on :D

Except that your car might just stall while going highway.

Dont ask me how I know. I found that out like 2 years ago.

I get that ^^^, when ever I reset the ECU and run at high RPM's on the highway. Go into neutral too cruise and the engine just feels like dying.

I've learned too down gear...

both screens out - no stalling , no cel , no issues whatsoever except for an exceptionally quick N/A 8

Just took a look at my air filter today. Are the two panels the ones on the air horn (upper) side of the box?

Oh, while I'm asking about this. I was planning to remove the screen closest to the air filter as well, but after reading this I'm confused. Can the screen be removed while leaving the air horn in, or do you remove both?

(Sorry for "stealing" the thread, but I figure keeping as few about this commonly asked subject is best)

you have to unscrew the three screws that hold it on, then unsnap the horn and take the screen out.

It is easiest to take the horn out then prize the radiused part off very carefully without breaking the plastic lugs- boiling water on it may make it easier to seperate if you have trouble.

idk im pretty hesitant on taking out the screens, but then again i doubt aftermarket intakes have the screens in them except for the rb intake.

Ok I got the two pieces of plastic and the screen closest to the air filter out.

Went for a drive and I like the nice subtle change in sound/pull. Like has been mentioned, actual gain is probably 1-2hp, but it does feel more responsive accelerating at low rpm in higher gears. Only issue is now my idle out of gear wonders by 50rpm or so, but I didn't reset the PCM so that may be it.
