Hey Guys,

I was donig some research on intakes again, cuz I seriously cant wait for racing beat to put our theirs, so I am going with KNN. But KNN offer 3 formats:

"Typhoon intakes come in one of three designs; cold air intakes (CA), short ram intakes (SR), or complete cold air (CCA) intakes which can be configured as either a cold air intake or a short ram intake."

What is the differnce between the 3 and which one should I get?

Thanks

*getting powder coated red one.

I saw a post before were a person had a k&n and flooded his 8. They wouldn't warranty it because they said that the oil in the filter covered the sensor in the air intake and caused a false reading that caused the flooding. Do a seach, it wasn't that long ago

your car comes with a cold air intake.

if you install those k&n intakes, you get sound, but your cold air intake is then swapped to one that uses air out of the hot engine bay. So you will likely lose power.

The K&N unit is not that good in that there have been idling issues. I don't think they really designed the unit for the RX8. They just ported through an existing design. You would be better off getting a K&N/Afe replacement air filter (the rectangular flat K&N that replaces your stock air filter), or the Rotary Extreme unit. It is a better design, and you won't have the idling & flooding issues. If you really want to drop some cash, HKS makes a nice suction kit (air intake) for about $400 to 500.

on the same note, the green air filter is also a drop in OEM replacement for the stock filter, but is less oily than the k&n. It runs about $65.

I'm sticking with the factory. On alot of the after market oil filled filters, they flow great until they are a little dirty. Then they don't flow well at all. Under hard throttle driving they can even suck the oil off the filter and in the intake, and also cover the sensor with oil causing other issues. I tried a few different ones. I checked them every few days and the same results.

Hey guys, can anyone comment about the MS drop in air filter?
I just got mine, since the stock one will be replaced soon (20,000km service). It is also quite cheap...

just get a better filter, even the RB one is only at most going to give you 3-5hp. We already have a well designed intake, don't mess with it. If you really want a good mod, swap out your tranny fuild with redline/royal purple synthetic.

Nice unit. It is supposed to flow 10% better than the standard air filter, but it costs major $ here.

After the New Year I will put the different RX-8 intakes on my new flowbench and I'll show you the differences in flow between them. When this happens, you can be sure I'll start a very long winded thread complete with pictures. Hopefully at the March Houston RX-7/8 club meet, I will demo the bench to everyone.

RG, can you test headers also.... :D

Jugga, I have the drop in AFE, seems to add some to the butt dyno. I had the SR Motorsports Intake for awhile, it was nice, and I do miss it. Waiting for the Racing Beat REVi Intake myself.

Wait a minute. You have a flowbench? I promise to call you after finals.

I don't know about you guys, but over here the stock one costs about 60Euros to replace.
I got the MS from japan for double the price (inc shipping). Well, its not cheap, but it looks good and functional... just my opinion...
