any missing?

Umnitza - price variable normally $229.00 sometimes 300 sometime 170?
|
what would be nice are some pictures of each one :) Some pics of the installation process, or of the actual part already installed. I mean, if this is going to be Sticky quality, we got to include those, as well as maybe links to the DIY's.

listing prices as I see them. I got that price from Racing Beats web site. usually if i find thit cheaper someplace I try to list that price. :) some of the prices I had for some of these products I am grouping start off real high, and fall as I go. I HAD the mazdaspeed flywheel in he flywheel thread starting at like 650 bucks. then found a more realistic price was like 480. :) |

you might want to yank out the first gen K&N kit, it was discontinued due to rough idle issues

yeah, I know it was discontinued, it's the one I have. I have had zerp problems with it though. I love it in fact. I love the ability to cruise around and be quiet like normal, and when you step on it make some seriouse noise when you want to.
I have experianced no idle problems,,,, no other problem at all. |
yea, thats why it was discontinued, not everyone had problems with it
|
yeah thats what i hear to.
I have not heard anything bad about the 2nd gen K&N have you? friend of mine just got it, and another friend has had it for a while, they dont have any complaints that i know of. |
the 2nd gen K&N works fine from what I have heard, but as with any intake there is limited power increase.
|
well yeah, I never claimed it made the car much faster..... just like the abnoxious noise it makes when I want it to. :)

updated to more relistic numbers. considering those were GOLD price numbers, I rounded up.
also added a couple more intakes. |
Doesnt really matter if they are gold pring or not, there is a thread that allows you to get gold member pricing as long as your are a member on this forum and I think free shipping as well. But at least it is better then before.

added some links.

here's a link with pics of the Umnitza/Simota CF Intake
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=92098 I thought we were going to put pics of installed intakes on the first post? There's a video of it on that link as well...maybe we could post additional video's for the one's we have access to....? Speed, we could get KN ver 1, KN ver 2, Racing Beat, AEM...I think I may even have a pic of the SR Motorsports one when it was on Jill's car. |
get some pics together, shrink them all to about the same size, and a size that will fit well on here (look at the flywheel post) and post the pics. I will then link them accordingly. ;)
|
ok, looks like most of them are in the range of 240 x 160. I'll see what I can do. :)

that pic of my duct didn't really show very well...maybe we should pm Jedi for some of his install pics.
|
either that are just get a close up of the grill.
|
FYI, that first pic you have under Version 2 K/N is actually Version 1 (that is not spiceboys' car)...it was one I took at 7-stock.
|
I know that is not spice boys car. but that is a ver 2... it has a round filter on it.
EDIT: my bad i didnt even look at the first pic. I assumed it was the same car with a ver 2. I will move the ver 1 up. |
some more pics

|

or is there two? |
I don't believe that you left out greddy
|
have any info on the missing intakes? links, price, name.....? I will add them to the list.
|
What's the general consensus about which intakes are better?
Personnally, I'm thinking about the RB Revi with CAI and the MazdaSpeed CAI... Thoughts and feedback? Thanks, -Dennis |
I have the RB with CAI. I bought it because it looks stock, and I assume I'll have less problems when I go to get the car smogged. With most of the other intakes, the air filter is exposed...and in California, there is no way to pass an emissions test. So, you are forced to switch back to the stock intake parts for the test, and then switch it back after you pass. With some cars, this is easy...but on the RX8, there is a lot to do.
Avoid the hassles, get the RB. The only draw back is the sound....I would love to have a loud intake, to match the exhaust. You just don't get that same sound from the RB, even with the cold air duct. The air duct is a must, it increases the sound a bit, as well as the performance...plus it looks cool, especially if you have an aftermarket front end. |
Kwescott, your intake is louder then you think. at the track a couple months ago you were pointed at me and I heard your intake clear as day. the differance between mine and yours, is that mine is loud in any direction of the car, even inside. yours is only loud it seems if the car is pointing at you. I know it sounds dumb, but true. (yours is also quiet in the car) . I think it has somehting to do with the RB ducking you have pointing it in one direction........ ????????? I duno.
I'm tellin you, when you were driving out there, I thought it was my car for a second. I had to turn around and look. |
Yesterday at lunch I spotted a unique looking RX8 and followed him to Subway. It had a fiberglass nose like some I've seen but added a NASA duct directly in front of the air intake. The owner said the front end had some parking lotr damage, a small gift left to him while shopping and rather then the factory nose replacement bought the one he had on. He added the duct before painting and modified the stock box to fit into it. He felt it made a bigger difference at speeds over 50 MPH then a 3" straightpipe, especially at higher RPM. He has a flat K&N air filter in the stock box.
A few other tidbits; Its a 2004 that had a new motor put in around 25,000 miles. It currently has 90,000 on it and still runs strong. At 40,000 he began running Mobil 1. At 50,000 he put the 3" straightpipe & exhaust in. He runs RX7 plugs, and changes them about every 25,000. Put a clutch in at 80,000 when the slave cylinder was leaking and had a slight chatter in the clutch. He gets 25 MPG on the road at 75-80 MPH and 18 MPG around town - less if he revs it a lot. His best mileage on trips has been 27 MPG through Oklahoma where speeds are mostly limited to 55. He runs 89 octane if he's going to be running highway only - not because the mileage is better but because the higher octane isn't needed as much under a staedy load. Any other time he only runs 93 octane. (He hasn't seen any difference in mileage between 89 & 93). He's added an oil temp gauge and can't understand why Mazda never added one. Apparently the oil temps can get pretty high after pulling off the highway and idling - then when pulling away the temp spikes about 40° - thinks the coolers need fans for sitting still but couldn't figure out a way to add them. With petroleum oil temp spikes were closer to 60° and typically ran about 30° hotter all the time - which is why he changed to synthetic. Also the oil vapor smell tends to go away with synthetic. Just a few extra tidbits you may find interesting. |
yes that is all interesting. :) thanks!
the oil cooler fan would be pretty cool. I would just use some sort of computer fan, 40mm 60.. 80mm ... what ever fit. |
|
so whats the word on all of these?? which one is the best?
