Lightbulb i want an rx8

alright guys, ive read a lot of stuff on this website, and you all seem to really know what your talking about so i made an account to ask a few questions. ok, im about to turn 17 and im going to get an rx8 this weekend, im freakin excited and when i heard i was gonna get my dream car i started thinking about what i was gonna do with it. ive got about 500 bucks to spend and i really want to make the car sound louder and give it that throughty sound, its an automatic and a friend of mine told me exhausts and mufflers sound shity on automatics, can nebody out there tell me otherwise? and what exhausts sound good for it? and r there ne ways to make a notable difference in performance for about a hundred bucks or so?
thanx

Nothing will give you an increase in the performance espically for a hundred bucks. Everything is just either minor bolt ons add a couple of hp nothing major. Unless you want to spend big money on a turbo or supercharger most everything else is for looks / sound.

I have the greddy exhaust but they are just for looks and sound so just take your pick.

I haven't heard any exhausts on an automatic that I know of. In general, exhausts sound more or less the same on automatics as manuals given that there is nothing between the exhaust manifold and the muffler that knows it is an automatic. The RX-8, however, employs a lower red line, 4 port engine in the auto's which may well sound different than the 6 port manual. If you just want loud, you can toss a test pipe in there for less than $500 bucks. It'll be louder, though not necessarily better. It'll also not be street legal. It's a brand new sexxy car so I don't think you'll have too much of an issue driving it around stock for a couple months while you decide what you want to do. Depending on where you are, you might want that $500 for snow tires soon.

take a drill and tear out the guts of your catalytic convertor, that's probably all you can get without going over $100

wow, you are one lucky kid... not even 17yet and you get an 8!..anyway..

I would look into getting a manual gearbox. if you dont know how to drive stick then get a friends car and learn, you wont regret it.

have fun and speed safely!

not much you can get for 100 bucks that would do anything... I agree with others, get the MT and learn to drive it cause that's the biggest upgrade you could do for performance... here's a link to compair the auto and MT:

Eh, it's not like the manual version is some sort of rip-snorting monster that will get you sideways at the slightest blip of the throttle. Plus the fact that you're more likely to get in trouble by taking a turn too fast...which pretty much any car can do.

In that case, I'd recommend the manual and learning how to drive

Call me lucky? Don't care. I, too, am 17 and was offered the yellow 8 i have now. 'Graduation' gift. After failing to find an fd, we decided it may be a little better to get the 8 being that's it's more new? Less power, but more new. Supposed to last me a while, so yeah.

I do have a job, so I pay for my own ****. Hah, they flipped when they read that I just spent a grand on the exhaust system and cat. But they were okay with it. I guess i feel a little more better that I pay for my own parts, rather than having them pay for it.

Any criticism? I really don't care. Save your time, and go to another thread.

packerfan,

like max suggested, if you are somewhere where it snows, use the $500 for snow tires, or else you will be getting in another accident soon.

If you don't like in a snowy location, then why are you a packers fan? Just kidding, but I would say save that $500 for aesthetic mods you are going to want. Cleaning products (haha, sweet aesthetic "mod" equipment), clear corners, strakes, some painted calipers, LEDs, puddle lamps, etc.

Not to mention money for gas and oil, and keeping enough money in your pocket to buy all the ladies you are going to pick up a root beer float at your local soda shoppe (high school girls are fical - just like most other girls)

At least, thats what I did?

And besides, that pattened "angry vacuum cleaner" sound is a great leeway into a rotary engine disertation for any of your less worldly aquaintances.

i got my sunlight silver when I was 16 and it was an awesome car

ive been saving for a long time and im going to repaint my car as well as new wheels and tires etc. but the first thing i did was I bought a greddy sp2 exhaust. the engine we have is so high revving and small that at first i didn't like the intial ricey sound but the sound grew lower and lower over the next 500 miles. if you can get a good catback you'll really enjoy the sound but performance whise don't expect much more than 2 or 3 hp. if you want some real power go turbo but that is at least another $5000 later. save your money and decide what you really want to do

packerfan, i got my 8 when i was 17 also so i know how excited you are. i own an auto 8 and the first thing i put on was the K&N intake for around $280. sounds awesome. next thing was the greddy sp2 which was about $550. finally put on the rp supercat which was $395. the whole combo sounds awesome. Its really loud but i love it. a lot of people stare me down when i accelerate. one time i was getting on the highway and someone was broken down on the on ramp and i got him to cover his ears when i went by

I live in the Orlando area, I saw you were in Florida. If you live near here let me know I'll let you hear my greddy sp2.
