yes it does cause a CEL. If the converter is not there you should have a dummy light on. It may not happen right away but it will eventually come on. I have a turboxs midpipe and it took over a week but my CEL came on.

Bung has nothing to do with it. The o2 sensor is seeing no cat, & popping the CEL. Only reason you have the bung is so that you don't take off the o2 sensor, or leave it dangling there.

the CEL will come on, then off, then on, then off. lol.. Ironically, mine has been off for about 3 weeks now and 750 miles. I probably just jinxed it by saying something.

i have the agency power exhaust....threw a cel after 15 miles. Oh and its STUPID LOUD!! I hate it....ordered the mazsport dual resonated midpipe. So be prepared for stupid loudness if you use the midpipe. Also it melts the exhaust shrouds...

I also ordered the MazSport mid-pipe to (hopefully) dampen the sound.
I've already started a video to show the difference between a stock cat and the Mazsport mid-pipe (with the AP cat-back), just need to wait for it to be installed so I can finish the video.
I should have added the AP mid-pipe to my video, but I already sold it... oh well

A hi-flow cat might help you. When I had that & my RB exhaust & later with my JIC titanium exhaust it was really awesome.

I don't have my mazsport midpipe yet, so I don't know! I'm hoping it will work anyway. From what I've heard about the mazsport midpipe, it seems like it should quiet it down quite a bit.

i got the AP kit. i love it. i like being retarded loud. dont redline unless u know cops arnt around cuz u will blow little or big flames. my cel came on after about 50miles. and my shrouds stopped melting after about 30miles. they will melt, but not all the way through mybe 1/4 the way. then just break off the metled plastic from behind the shroud and it wont melt anymore.

But honestly, I too loved it at first. Give it a few months and we'll see if you still feel the same.
You might join the club and change out that midpipe within a year!
Enjoy!
