Hymee Exhaust

well maybe Hymee can chime in on this...

I am very interested in the Hymee Enhanced exhaust I didn't think I would be able to get it but now that one of our Vendors has become a Hymee importer I have new hope!

https://www.rx8club.com/mazdaparts-com-90/1st-u-s-distributor-thunder-down-under-46627/

...I wanted to see if anyone else had some pics and vids/or sound bytes of it...it would be much appreciated

oh and how easy is the install for a complete newbie or should I bring it into my Girlfriend's uncles' shop (he may do it for free but I dont know :))

Okay Aussies chime in :) :) :) (or anyone else who has it)

thanks!!!

shelleys_man_06 12-11-2004 11:42 PM

I took interest in Hymee's exhaust a while back. It's a gorgeous piece, and so far it's number two on my list of impending exhaust systems. Sorry Hymee, Racing Beat comes first.

RXE16T 12-12-2004 12:26 AM

Piss easy to install.........remove the old unit and replace it with the Hymee one.

As for the look of it, it looks almost like a HKS unit with the exception of the tips.

BTW, sound clips are available on Hymee's site:

Looks like the Greddy, big tips.

Aoshi Shinomori 12-12-2004 01:57 AM

Hymee's got one of the better looking sounding exhausts I've heard. That guy had a very good idea of what he's doing.

truemagellen 12-12-2004 02:29 AM

I really like how the tips are not vertical...the ends are cut at an angle closer to the angle of the body

I love the sound clip on his site...yes I saw that before :) I was looking for any other clips since the clip 'in car' was poorly recorded

I must say though...I found the sound in the clip of the best of all the exhausts I have heard...it is deeper, louder (not a lot) then stock...and much crisper then the others I have heard...but I need some more clips :) :) :)

truemagellen 12-12-2004 02:47 AM

oh also what is the difference between the aluminised mild steel and the stainless steel one

here is the pic I was talking about :):

RXE16T 12-12-2004 03:09 AM

The Hymee is not that loud either........barely noticeable at idle in fact.
It certainly is a lot quieter than the HKS.

Snelly 12-12-2004 03:19 AM

Unfortunately i have no sound clips but can point you in the direction of a long thread i started on the UK owners club forum. I started it when i was interested in the Racing Beat but ended up with the Hymee. Throughout the thread there are many pics of the exhaust taken by both Hymee and myself. It details my experiences of the whole buying and fitting experience and ends with some shots of the exhaust on the car.

The thread is here- http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum...pic.php?t=4682

Once again sorry no sound clips but hopefully there maybe something there of interest to you.

Mark.

might be totatll off, i think the aluminize steel probably more subject to bronzin, where stainless would not.

Rasputin 12-12-2004 05:38 AM

Zoom˛,

The aluminised steel version has the same stainless steel tips as the full stainless version of the Hymee. And the mufflers and pipes of the same aluminised steel version are coated with a special black paint.

I should point out that the popping/backfiring in this sound clip is not normally experienced to this level in normal driving. It is very occasional in everyday usage......

Hymee's system is first class. I've had mine for about six months now, and love it to death. The tips have held up really well, still look great and are really scratch resistant. One thing that few seem to have noticed is a phenomenon I've called "feathering" on the overrun. When you start to decelerate and you close the throttle, you will notice something like a "Jake brake" (exhaust brake) sound if you then add a little pressure lightly to the accelerator pedal. Not enough pressure to start accelerating again, just enough to stem the drop off in revs too quickly. The sound is a low rumble and it's something you feel through the car, and hear out of the exhaust. It's not at all loud, and it's not unpleasant. In fact, it's a sound characteristic/feel I've come to love and I encourage it every time I drive the car. I have mentioned it to Hymee in the past, and he confirms that his own system does it too, he too loves the sound.

Should you get one of these systems, you won't be disappointed.

Gomez.

My Hymee exhaust turns one next week. Still going strong. Hymee does a great job with all his products.

Here's a sound clip I recorded not long after I installed it.

that is one nice growl...it is the tone of the growl which I am drawn too...other exhausts have a nice growl as well but this tone is far more aurally pleasing

you Aussies are so helpful :)

canaryrx8 12-13-2004 10:53 AM

dang that's awesome, excuse my laziness, but how much is it?

takahashi 12-13-2004 04:40 PM

After having seen and heard Gomez and Lexic system live, I think they are very nice exhaust. It is quality made products, even it is mild steel!

Who has the stainless.... I think Gomez and Lexic's are mild steel. Or I am wrong... again?!

From L&L, who have heard both, said both system sounds the same and stainless steel look marginally better.

Gomez 12-13-2004 04:54 PM

Yeah Taka, I have the aluminised mild steel system. I don't think there is any change in the sound produced by either system. BTW, the sound clip posted by Wildcard was of his stainless system.

Gomez.

truemagellen 12-13-2004 05:21 PM

I'm not sure I still understand the difference between the too Aluminised Mild Steed v Stainless

the sound, similar, other than that what is the difference? (price? look? weight? etc?)

thanks Aussies

Stainless is more expensive as it uses more expensive materials. It is also more durable.

Sound is similar, identical even.

Once fitted, externally they look the same but if you peek under the car, the mildsteel is black coated and the stainless is a polished piece of art.
The stainless stell also requires you to change some of the tiles of your garage with mirror ones!;) :D

Not at all, as far as I can read and see on this thread!
Please someone(s) confirm.

Gomez 12-14-2004 02:15 PM

No, not really.....maybe a little duller than original, but not much. My car needs a wash...I'll post a good close-up pic of a Hymee tip with 6000 miles on it later on.

Stainless is a fair bit more expensive, about 60% dearer, IIRC.

The tips got a wash, the car didn't.....Looking closely at them, they haven't yellowed at all. Spot my Labrador in one of these pics :D .

These tips are the "short taper" tips, and have a different internal cross-section to those on Wildcards car pictured above. You will see that my tips "open up" in the last inch...Wildcard's tips tapered over the full tip length, not the last inch. As a result, his appear to be bigger when viewed from the rear. Last time I spoke to Hymee he was only producing exhausts with the short taper, so the point is probably moot now anyway.

Gomez.

Edit...the second pic I included as it shows the angle the tips are cut at....although the pic appears to indicate the steel has "blued", that isn't the case. It's a reflection off the Winning Blue paint.

Gomez your Hymee exhaust looks amazing I'm almost sold (just need to find a shop to use for installing it :) I'll check on my GF's uncles shop)

one more thing...could you post a pic at exhaust tip level that catches the whole back of the car please? and then one from a little higher up?

Thanks!

Here's one from the vault, I took this one when I changed my diff oil a while back. The tips were obviously in need of a wash that day.

I'll take a few more shots for you later....

Gomez.

Richard Paul 12-17-2004 10:39 PM

Don't you need plates down under?

Gomez 12-17-2004 11:00 PM

They are on there Richard, I just blanked out the plate using a photoshop program before I posted the photo. Most people do this, it prevents those with access to the police/DMV records from taking down your details and then coming over and "boosting your ride". Allows some on-line anonymity too, for those of us that like to tell big lies... :D You can't tell big lies, Mr Richard Paul...... :)

Oh yeah, here's a pic that details the short taper, long taper thing I was talking about a few posts back.....

truemagellen 12-17-2004 11:15 PM

I like the standard taper setup...but I would also like to see more pics of the 'special' taper setup...like on the bottom pic

more pics from farther back...also is the piping darker on the 'special' one or is it just the lighting?

As I mentioned earlier, I think the short taper (special) is all that's available now. That is what is on my car. And yes, the tips needed a wash, that's why they are dark. The photo's of Wildcard's car on the hoist early in this thread show the tips on an exhaust that has never been used in anger....that's why they were so clean :) .

Gomez.

truemagellen 12-17-2004 11:44 PM

oh now I understand...thanks Gomez...well I love your setup so then Special it is

I'll talk to thew@ www.rx8garage.net about it...I think I'll buy it for myself on my B-day :)

BIU 12-18-2004 04:17 PM

GOD DAMN after following this thread i am SO sold on a Hymee exhaust with short tapered tips....

But i just invested in a bodykit so i dont have enough dough lying around for this right now...let alone the stainless steel version.... and plus shipping from Australia to Canada OMG its gonna rape me dearly :(

So when Hymee says that the stainless steel version will last 20-25 years while the mild steel version will last ~5 years.......what does he mean by the shortened lifespan?

What would be the mild steel version exhaust be like after 5 years?

Do you find the Hymee exhaust to be a loud exhaust?
How does it compare to the Racing Beat exhaust?

i cant really judge from the sound clips :(

My wife and i are totally against cheap loud exhausts but Hymees exhaust always brings a smile to our face ITS NOT INSTRUSIVE even with the windows down , it really gives the car the voice it deserves .

I would say its on par to racing beats for quality and sound but have only heard sound clip of racing beats.

Hymee if your reading this dont forget my PO BOX number for the 10%commission j/k
