how much powers can the stock automatic transmission handle?

Hi I have a 2005 Shinka edition with the automatic transmission. i was planning on supercharging it using mazdatrix kit but when i told them it was an automatic they had no idea what the transmission could hold or was capable of. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the AT is very durable, Phil's8 is pushing over 260 to the wheels and hasn't had problems.
It should be capable of handling 300whp +

P.S. which kit? The Procharger?

Transmission figures should be given in nM or lb\ft, power is just a rough estimate
It should handle that kind of build but are you sure you want to go the centrifugal supercharger way?

Horsepower is a function of torque. So it's not really a rough estimate. HP= (torque x rpm) / 5250

That said, high amounts of torque are harder on transmissions than horsepower. One nice thing about automatics is that since there is no direct link between the tranny and engine, driveline shock is lessened a little bit.

It can take more than the motor can make.
Go for it!

Jeff,

I just spoke with Dave he is willing to try 14/15psi if the initial low boost tuning works out
I have a feeling you are right, the auto will take anything the motor can make...

EDIT - Duh. Thinking about the wrong Dave. lol

Let's get it working good on 10 - 12 PSI and work our way up from there. Any progress on the other car?
