Sorry about the delay, the HKS USA R&D department has been slammed lately with other deadlines and hasn't had time to test it yet. Hopefully, i'll have some news for you guys this week!

If it's not tested this week, i'll at least try to post some pics of the parts!

Thanks!...this was a JDM production Racing Suction Kit that had to be tested out here before it's sold in the U.S.

It's supposed to retail around $645.

I told you all! :D Sorry I couldn't get the pics to show you all myself... this is a badass looking intake.

However...
I've got a feeling it's going to be a bit loud and doesn't address the fact that power gains can be had simply by modifying the VFAD only. Imagine, all the air the engine is getting comes through that small tube! Adding these "cone" filters only adds a few hp... so the original design with the VFAD isn't missing out on that much hp. Like in the Mazdaspeed RX-8, you'll pick it up, but changing the diameter and maybe the length as well of the VFAD tube.

Anyone here have this installed?
Maybe some numbers, because that would be great.
So far the aftermarket intakes have sucked (no pun intended)
and HKS has a pretty good rep I'm hoping to see something impressive.

IMpressive in what way? It's the same thing as the other intakes, it's not tuned for anything. It's just a short tube with a new filter on it. If it used and re-tuned the existing ducting that extends the original intake it might do something, as it stands now, looks to me like 650 bucks spent on getting the HKS logo.

hey Genom, that is so true, i've spend $1100 for a HKS catback, and that was very stupid, i don't think any other brand made the catback any diffent way, so im just gonna get some air intake for less than 600, but if we have a catback on we really do need a intake, b/c mine is running very rich.

I know 2 people locally that got the HKS and it looks nice and all, but it's almost the same as the Racing beat, B&B and others. Hell, even the Greddy is the same, except for the tip size and weight.

Soundwise it's about the same as the Racing beat, which I think is a little deeper than the borla, and not as loud as the greddy.

For about 500 bucks extra, I'd hope there was more to it, but there wasnt, so I am assuming the intake is gonna be the same deal. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

After 6 runs, the median hp gain was about 5.5 hp at the wheels. The lowest run being about 4 hp gain and the highest being about 7 hp gain. Here's a dyno sheet that shows the 5.5 hp gain:

is that just the HKS suction kit that on the dyno sheet make 5.5 hp on the wheel, or is include the HKS catback?

Thanks

looks like his HKS exhaust gave him at least +8hp to the wheels from stock since run #6 showed almost 189hp.

i met up with FE3P today to check out the intake in person.... MAN THAT **** WAS BADAZZ!!!! If your looking for an intake that actually gains power, this is the one for you!! I thought the K&N intake was nice but this just tops everything off, quality wise, performance wise, and sound wise. If your looking for something thats quiet, then go back home and drink mommy's milk cause this thing is insane loud! From what FE told me there was no problem with starting the engine up. During the test drive I noticed how much quicker the needle pegged 9 grand.. The Legamax exhaust sounds badazz as well. Not to mention about the coilovers which felt tighter than your girlfriend on promnight. All in all, I think the cost of the intake kit is well worth the price. You get for what you pay for...QUALITY

I still don't see any significant differences between this and the RE or K&N, at least in terms of the concept. And unless I am remembering wrong, it is in the ballpark of their dynos as well. The construction, etc. may be better, I can't judge that from the pictures...HKS stuff is usually very well put together...but in terms of what it is doing, how it does it and how well it does it...I don't see a difference. And I'm not buying anyone noticing "how much quicker the needle pegged 9 grand" either, not with the posted differences in horsepower. However, I could be convinced perhaps if someone takes a video of the tach at WOT and overlays it with the stock video, as someone else did with the Canzoomer ECU.
