93 octane won't give you better mileage. If anything, it will be worse. Some people (including me) get better mileage with 87 octane than with 91.

 

Higher octane burns faster (But it sure as hell gives better performance than 87).

 

I thought higher octane is harder to ignite, can be compressed better, thus is less likely to result in knocking. Don't think it would "burn faster".
As far as giving better performance than 87 in a (normally aspirated) rotay, that's debatable. I sure don't feel that way. But this was already discussed ad nauseum and there are always differing opinions about the topic.

I get 250 without a problem in all city driving with AC use (not all the time but in about half of my drives) so if the REVi helped my fuel economy I think I could hit 20mpg (I avg 19+ right now) in the city which would be GRRRRRRRRReat!

I had thought that High Octane gasses burned at a more constant or cleaner rate. You could probably say slower that lower octane.

When I was going to a Tech school in AZ, AAI. MY roomies (I went for the drafting they went for the Mechanics portion) told lme that they had done a experiment with low octane and high octane fuel in a vacum tube or something like that. When the low octane was ignited it did not burn evenly, but burned suratically. The High octane burned even from one end to the other. Maybe it happened slow, but that is my second hand experience. me dos centavos

I don't know where you guys got your intakes from. I have a RB exhaust and Intake and my gas milage hasn't changed (220 miles per tank 91 octane) under normal driving conditions. And just in case anybody is wondering I live in Anaheim and picked up both directly at Racing Beat's headquarters.

I've achieved 20mpg closest before was 18.5

This was at 67mph over tow runs. One at 90 miles and the other at 165 miles.

At 65 to 75 to 80 and most of that was at 75 to 80 I got 19 over a 90 mile run.

Noway I could get that before the Revi.

 

I just got finished with a week of driving and my milage was 192 miles on 13.90 gallons. which eqauls out to 13.81 miles per gallon. I did very little if any highway driving. Last month when i did similar driving(going back to forth to work) i got 12.31 miles to the gallon. So i got an increase of 1.5 miles per gallon. Which is an increase of 12% Not bad.

 

I've been wanting to install the intake on my car since I got it, currently i'm getting about 200 miles on a full tank which I think is kind of low.. maybe my throttle technique is just poor... anyways I just talked with the dealer today about installing the REVi and they said it would void my warranty. I thought it was only if they could prove that the intake is the cause of the problem it would void my warranty. Any answers on this?

 

It will void some things associated with your car's warranty,regarding the intake: Ie. some various sensors,etc.
However,it's unlikely you'd have trouble with any of the things voided until after your warranty runs out,anyhow.
Dealerships aren't allowed to install ANYTHING aftermarket on your car.
I had to explain to my dealership that the Racing Beat s/s oil cooler and a/c screens were to fix a Mazda design defect-and I made it clear that if I had problems in that regard (holes in my oil coolers,a/c punctured,etc.) that I was gonna' raise hell,and they opted to install those pieces.
They won't touch intakes with a ten-foot pole.
As to intake install,any local performance shop should be able to reccommend a good installer-it's not rocket science,from my experience.
Your warranty?
If you install another intake,save ALL your original intake pieces,if you have some intake-related issue,simply reinstall the original airbox and the dealership's none the wiser.

 

Here's my story --
Before REVi Intake: 58 Tankfuls 87 Octane avg. 21.68 MPG
After REVi Intake: 7 Tankfuls 87 Octane avg. 22.07 MPG (+ 0.4 MPG, not much)

This is 'typical' 80 mile commute, spirited driving, hitting redline in 1st 3 gears each way at least once.

 

How much poewr does the revi add?

 

FYI, I myself have experieced increase mileage with the REVi, I used to consume a tankful=200miles; now it's 250 miles and above. I normally drive on the GAS will only slow down for congested traffic, sheriff/trooper/po's on the side of the highway; radar is one great thing they have invented at least for me, it ;has minimize my speeding ticket accruals although my attorney just loves it :D increasing his office revenue from me. Now, I'm trying to learn to really slow down coz it's really hurting my pocket now(currently on a month probation, too!).

 

Interesting. I have 300 miles on my tank now and my car is stock except for K & N air filter. My gas light hasn't even come on yet, but I am just a hair above empty. I too get the same mileage from 87 as I do 93 (weird).

9500 miles on it, a/c on 90% of the time (hot and humid in Alabama right now) 87 octane

I read somewhere that the ecu holds the engine back for the first 10k miles for proper break-in. I have noticed my mileage getting better as I get closer to that mark. I believe it to be rumor, or could it be true?

 

It is against the law (federal law btw) for a dealer to void your warranty b/c of ANY aftermarket installed parts. You are correct that if they determine that was the cause, it can be voided. I had it happen to me on my last vehicle.

 

i just had my first trip with the REVi and my best before the install was 23.5mpg. i went 309.4 miles on 12.73 gallons. 24.3mpg!!!!!
