Greddy is on the loud side at idle. @6750rpm they fall about mid-pack. So they are definitely not on the quiet side.... not when the most quiet is 80db @6750rpm. If it was 82db, that'd be different. At idle, they are clearly above average in noise level...

Very interesting discussion!
So, some of you guys didn't change the exhaust, only the midpipe, since its the only part worth changing in order to get more power.
Dump question: What I don't get is the 'cat' or 'cat-back' things you are refering to. Can someone explain please?
I am no mechanic, so can you outline all the exhaust parts, from the engine to the tips?

Since I started this, I quess I am to blame, I will try to answer.

The exhaust system (on the 8) from the exhaust manifolds/headers comes the catalytic converter: this burns most the bad stuff we don't want our kids and even ourselves breathing. It consists of a material that is very durable and helps us breath but not the 8. It Kills backpressure.: Next is the Resonator. it is a thick pipe that weighs a hole bunch and is perforated to defuse/muffle the sound directly after it leaves the cat. The cat and the resonator are a one piece unit.: Then you have the Cans/mufflers/muffler.; Forgive me but I don't know if the stock system has one or two. I could look at mine but I am not at home. Could somebody add this fact. The school is out as to which is better. IMHO Dual is cual : Last is the Tips.; I am now hearing that the tips will muffle the sound also.

When all is said and done we will have a tri muffled system for our dual rotor six port four seat 8.

Please correct me if I got anything wrong.

Thanks for the info! Got the first and last parts, but what do you mean by saying 'then you have the cans'? You mean the midpipe?

No literally "cans." The BIG round thing that muffles sound from your engine. Also refered to as a muffler (but some people use "muffler" for the whole cat-back system sometimes).

So far, the best setup on my car has been the Testpipe /w the stock exhaust. I modified my stock exhaust and added 3" MagnaFlow oval tips.
RX8on19s,

When you said you modified the "stock exhaust", was that by just adding the tips or changing mufflers also with the mid pipe?

bill.

has anyone out there just changed the mufflers just to get the sound. It seems to me that performance wise the midpipe is the only thing making more power. I would like the car to sound a little more aggressive and was thinking of adding some of the titanium mufflers i have in stock just to get a better sound. My local tuning shop here, Horsepower House, will custom make the rear section for me so that the mufflers will sit correctly in the slots in the rear bumper.
Anyone have any thoughts on trying this? Or has anyone just replaced the mufflers
