stock greddy kit at 6 psi gives around 240-250 whp. So that's roughly 60 whp gains. If you increase the boost you can go up to around 280 whp. And if you replace the turbo with a larger one you can go to 350 range

Look in the Major Horsepower Upgrades subforum.
"This is the place to discuss Super Chargers and Turbos, Nitrous, Porting, etc"

One of the stickies you'll find in there:
Dyno comparison for the RX-8 (turbo, supercharger, etc)
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=132628

I would suggest the MM Greddy upgrade kit. (MM = MazdaManiac)

The Greddy is cheap, but changes to it's design are not supported by Greddy (the company).

The MM Greddy upgrade is not something supported by Greddy or a Pro tuner shop either (yet).

If your willing to tinker, make the modifications (make sure to be clear on what you have to do), and take the risks that come along with it than you should eventually see the benefit of the MM Greddy upgrade.

Edit- Oppps, point well made Kersh4w

i'd just like to point out its GREDDY not greedy. you could make a joke about mazsport or sfr's turbo kits price being too "greedy" but the kit that can be found for $2k? i think not..

Don't mind sosonic. He's very pro SC and thinks turbos are unreliable, unsafe, and unproven to outperform SC despite producing higher horsepower and torque numbers by a large margin.

Fortunately for him the MM turbo upgrade is ball bearing and water/oil cooled. It will last a long time.

Also fortunate that there is nothing to support! The MM turbo upgrade is a drop in replacement. All you do is install the turbo in place of the greddy turbo and you're done. You can expect more power at the same boost levels. Just make sure your AFRs are safe.

The MM Upgrade to the GReddy kit is the best thing to happen to the failing Greddy kit. It is the BEST BANG FOR BUCK HP out for the rx-8

I don't want to get into a pissing match but I think Nitrous is the best bang for the buck.
Agreed it isn't always there, meaning you need to fill the tank but dollar per dollar I would say NO2 is cheaper.

NO2 costs $2 - $3 each time you use it (on a 75 shot or so).
So, its only cheaper if you use it less than 1500 times over your ownership of the vehicle. And that is assuming you don't make any supporting mods (intake, exhaust, gauges, engine management) that would be part of the cost of a turbo system.
Also, you can only use it ~20 times in a row or so before you have to start making right turns to avoid seeing the hazards on a Civic.

Mazsport's kits are expensive, but you get a lot more with their kits than you do most of the others, from what I can tell. There is really nothing else to buy, whereas a lot of the other options out there seem to require changes/additions to make them reliable. Plus you get first-rate tech support.

But you are correct in that Mazsport is definitely a higher end option.

I like to yell, "Lets go!! Menaaaaashe!"

I feel really cool when im yelling that. Its a bit challenging to say though during the run because i am carefully calculating my nitrous sprayage, but with alot of practice i have gotten it down. I have been playing alot of Brain Age lately, so, i think that has helped.

I think im gonna get someone to record one of these runs with me so i can post here and see how cool everyone else thinks i am. Im siked.

No, I think he had it right the 1st time, it's GREEDY ! Kit is marginal. If you are struggling to come up with the money for that kit, than I certainly would not recommend any turbo kit. There is a lot more involved with this kit than the actual purchase price. And the quality of the kit is marginal, so unless you modify it, save yourself the heartache & don't do it.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have just done the NA mods, then got the nitrous setup for when I needed the extra kick.

Fanman, your engine blew, right?

For anyone who has had a misconfigured kit, you can expect sour grapes and loathing. If your experiences have been good, you can expect them to be giddy with joy.

You should expect some of both. It's never going to be all roses, but the power is great and if your car is running fine, then the last thing you'll say is that you regret having gone that route.

FI isn't cheap, and unless you can budget the money to do it properly all the way through, you'll end up with a blown engine at worse, and at best you'll be the guy selling off the kit for cheap because you couldn't finish it properly. But you might get lucky and have no issues at all.

Your engine might also blow even if everything is setup properly. Your seals might have been on their way out and the turbo pushed it over the edge.

It's a gamble no matter how you cut it.

Believe Fanman. He knows how bad the Greedy kit is.

You can always look up the problems with the kit.

I think you need 2500 bucks more to make it a good daily driver kit.

I still disagree with Fanman.

The greddy kit is fine. they went cheap on the hoses, and the turbo doesn't have bearings. But both are easy to fix. If it's tuned properly, you aren't going to run into much issues. GReddy is known to sometimes ship fuel management systems without any maps on them - in those cases I would be mad at them, but that doesn't mean the kit isn't capable or doesn't work. It just means their quality control isn't up to par.
