good price?

me: Does your shop ever work on rx8s? I would like to put a stage 2 cz unit, midpipe, and new exhaust on my 8 and am looking for a shop to do the work.

shop: The whole job with tax is $3966. Flywheel, clutch, computer, harness, complete exhaust, spark plugs, gas, install labor, and dyno tune. Makes right around 200 RWHP…

what do you guys think about the cost? also what does the 8 have for stock rwhp? the 8 is 238hp at the crank right, so what would 200rwhp translate to at the crank about?

Why did they add flywheel, clutch, gas and plugs?Did you ask for all that? I think the stock RWHP is 178,So I would guess the new crank HP would be about 250Hp.

he said he is working on one right now where he did all that and that was the exact price. i am assuming the rest of the upgrades he threw in he feels are necessary.

seems like a lot of money for minimal gains (i thought it'd be more than 250, oh well), id be better off spending it on the greddy turbo!

That's about 3X too expensive. Why on earth would you need a clutch & plugs. That is how much you would pay for all that + a turbo install or maybe if he was buying all the CZ unit, flywheel, midpipe & exhaust AND doing the install.

Not bad then. The parts alone is probably $2K right there. Honestly I have never heard where you will need spark plugs & a new clutch for this level of work. You are looking for a setup that has a lot of upside (turbo) down the road.

Thanks for the compliment. I have dynoed it a few times. Once with just the Rb exhaust, once after i installed the air intake, pullies, & hi-flow cat, & so far once with my turbo setup (but a bit if adjusting still needs to be done), I will actually be dynoing it again on Monday as I have an updated Greddy Emanage program from Greddy as it was corrupt the first time.

Honestly I don't want to remember how much I have spent on this car. Too depressing.

You should be able to get the fly wheel instal for 4 to $600, or even $800.
I think Tustin Mazda did it for 400.

800 + 600 = 1400 for fly wheel.

You don't need a new clutch.
Exhaust was $75 to install. Add another 75 for midpipe or there abouts.

And installition and tuning of the CZ is nothing.

Should cost you 1200 in labor max.

Don't you think it's funny that his website doesn't have a busness address.

He's playing an old mechanic trick on you.

Repleace unecessary parts on your car and then he'll never see you again because you are fat and happy.

New clutch plugs ect......

This is what it should probably cost you.

Exhaust - 600 ish
Have them machine a straight pipe - 100
Install those 2 - 125
Canzoomer stage 2 - 800 new I believe
and like 25 bucks to install that. It's a plug n' play.
So you're looking at 1650 bucks and about 200rwhp I would think. But of course every car is different so we can't just add em all up so easily

The clutch (pressure plate & clutch disc) & aluminum fly wheel are about $1,000+ in parts. Not to mention several hundreds of $$$ in labor. Again, if you plan to keep this level of performance it is completely unnecessary to swap out the clutch. The flywheel will help performance in that it revs the engine faster and this car needs revs for power.
