Going to buy a Borla Exhaust...

And will very likely do so in the next week or two. For those of you who have this exhaust, where did you get yours? Seems to be kind of a hard item to find... At the very least, if you just have a suggestion on a good, honest place I can get it I'd more than appreciate the input. Thanks in advance!

**Update as of 5:00p.m., Feb 1st**
Just dropped by the shop a bit ago and got to listen to the exhaust! Thanks Jeremy! Only thing they have left to do is throw on the Starter once it arrives tomorrow, and I'm good to go.

Anyways, I did take a short sound clip. Hopefully the site I've used is fairly stable, cause it's the only one I know of.

http://www.zippyvideos.com/812839828.../rx8_borla_01/

Once I get it back, I'll be sure to put together a couple of clips to show the difference between Stock and the Borla exhaust!

i think they are very easy to find, but not at a reasonable price.

two best prices from vendors that support the forum are,

http://www.dpeweb.com/ProductDetails...8&vehicleID=58

http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/borlarx8.htm

might check to see what the shipping is first. have had good expiriences with both stores.

Vectorwolf...I too would like the Borla one day, but $585-680 is just crazy to me, by the way can someone tell me how people can still claim this:

Borla Stainless Steel Catback exhaust for the RX-8 (10 RWHP increase over stock HP)
I think this is false advertisement...

you can also try to find a used one to buy.. i bought mine used from ebay for $400 shipped. It came in really good condition, just needed some polish and looked new. it also sounds great without the popping noise too. sometimes surching around ebay might get you something you want.. good luck looking for yours

Thanks for the input!

Wannahave: I have NO idea if any exhausts actually add a noticeable amount of horsepower. The big reason I'm buying an exhaust (and this one in particular) is really just the sound. I LOVE the way Borlas sound, and the fact that hardly anyone seems to have it is just a bonus. lol

i agree with you.. the power on any aftermarket exhaust wont get you more than 3 hp. but it would make your ride sound way more aggressive. the borla also wont eliminate the rotary sound thats coming out of the engine! thats how i like it!!

You've got it. I really do wish I could find some more sound clips of Borlas, though... So few people seem to have it? But, I guess it won't manner within about a week.

w00t. Thanks for all the help! Just ordered it from dpeweb. I chose the next-day air shipping (patience isn't one of my virtues!), so hopeully I'll have it by Wednesday or so. I'll be sure to post some pics and video/audio if I can find a place to upload it.

Thanks! Just got my tracking number a while ago. Looks like it'll be here by 3:00 pm tomorrow afternoon. I feel like a kid at Christmas... lol

And, no. I'll probably just take it to the same shop another member used for his install (he got a Hymee). Until I move in to the new place this weekend, and actually have a solid-floored garage (current is dirt... bleh), I can't really do any work. A few extra degrees on the thermometer will help, too.

two of my friends and i took 3 and a half hours to install it because we were using simple hand tools to get hangers into the rubbers. it was pretty painful and was one hell of an experience though. haha..well tell me how you like it after you get it installed.

Lol, sounds fun. :p My last big "mechanical" job was when someone helped me install rear-deck speakers in the old Miata. Again, having a shop do it will probably be faster if nothing else, and that's good in my book. I'm the poster child for instant gratification.

yea letting a shop doing the job is way faster but completing the job yourself makes you feel accomplished. and also save some $$$ for something else.

Lol, I don't want to feel accomplished, I just want my exhaust on. :-) j/k Actually, the few times I have in the past, I've LOVED working on my cars. It is a really exciting thing to find out how it all works, and actually MAKE it work again. But in this case I've been literally waiting since last summer to get my finances in order so I could purchase this thing. Just glad it's finally happening.

I'm sure if I ever get that supercharger (if anyone is actually planning to make one?) that I'll get a couple of friends to help me wrench and tune it in the garage.

hahaha! just too excited to hear that exhaust bring out the aggressiveness of the car. i understand what you mean, i was like that the day i recieved the exhaust which was 1.5 weeks ago. and i just keep making excuses to drive the car so i can hear and feel like exhaust. well...why not try to turbo your car instead? it is still a wonderful mod with that psssh sound everytime you let go of the gas.

Haha, yeah. Blowoff valve would be fun to hear as well. I dunno... I'm not too impressed with the Greddy (the only kit I've actually seen a direct-comparison video of). Just doesn't seem like it's worth the money? The promise of low-end torque is what really pulled me towards the superchargers.

yea youre right. greddy didnt really do a good job on the turbo. they shouldve made it bigger or something so itll produce more power. right now i am waiting for a future turbo that will really impress me which will have atleast 100hp boost and atleast 60 lbs torque because our car is in need of torque. dont know when is it going to happen but just hope...

Exactly. I know we're never gonna have the wide selection of FI kits like most Hondas or Nissans, but we need SOMETHING good. If all else fails, I might just have to save up another $10,000 or whatever, and get a tri-rotor. lol

And Tigger, I'll be sure to give a full review. I'm SO anxious right now... Just checked the FedEx tracking again, and it's been "On a truck for delivery" for coming on two hours now. As long as I can get it in a shop and installed today, I'm probably going to take some simple before-and-after pics and soud clips to show the difference as well as possible. I'll keep everyone posted.

*update*

Ok, the unthinkable has happened... I went out to start my car so I could find an install shop... and it wouldn't start. I even tried jumping it for about 20 minutes to no avail. Had her towed to the Mazda dealership, and they're going to go ahead and replace the plugs, starter, and battery. As long as that works, I'll have her back tomorrow afternoon. They're also going to go ahead and install the exhaust while it's in the shop. I'll let everyone know if/when I get it back.
