Getting rid of CEL due to being catless.

I have a custom 3" full exhaust. Catless, and mufflerless. Dying to put it on, but I KNOW im going to hate seeing the CEL, I've seen it on my previous S4 for a couple years, and Im not about to see it again on my 8 lol. What would be the best way or possible options I have to get rid of it? Other then just taking the bulb out? Thanks guys.

Btw- Anyone else running the same type of exhaust? Hows yours sound?

To my knowledge, there is no known way to fix the CEL by going catless. If you don't like it then I recommend buying the Hymee Scanalyzer and deleting the CEL yourself.

Only the Hymee Scanalyzer will get rid of it? Not any normal computer at a mechanics shop would do the job? Sorry if its a silly question heh. I've heard about o2 foolers, how legit are these? I'm in a pretty bad situation, I want the exhaust installed real bad, but I dont know if I want to throw a CEL for it.

i asked this question a while back and to my knowledge, there are some products that can delete the CEL - but only temporarily (sp)

I guess I might have to approach that. While I clear the CEL, if anything else goes wrong with the car, it should still act normal, and throw a CEL for the problem correct? Meaning if I clear the CEL for the exhaust, it wont clear the CEL for any other problem?

Thats not true. If you clear the sensor profiles (to clear the CEL for the O2 sensor) you will clear them all. Your CEL will come back within a few miles (if that). Now if something else was wrong, it would be difficult to tell because the O2 sensor will probably fail first.
Now, if something mechanically fails, the CEL will flash (even though the CEL stays on). At that point you should have the car looked at or find out what caused it to flash because driving with the CEL solid isn't usually harmful to the car, but a flashing CEL could).
If you're worried about catching other failures, use a scanner to check it every month or whatever you feel comfortable with.

Your neighbors are going to love you! I have a full 3" exhaust with a catless pipe. It has a resonator and two mufflers and it is REALLY loud. My girlfriend could always hear me coming several blocks away. But you'll be firing some nice flames thats for sure!

All you will be doing with a scan tool is resetting the CEL code back to running normal, but as soon as the O2 sensor detects that your cat is not functioning properly it will throw the code again. There is no way to get rid of the CEL for just that issue exclusively.

The problem with having the CEL light on constantly is that it could be a signal of a problem in something else. A flashing CEL indicates catastrophic failure, usually you want to be able to alleviate the problems BEFORE you get the flashing CEL.

Yeah so I guess I might not be installing the exhaust then. It just annoys me since all these companies make downpipes and etc for cars, and still have to throw a CEL, whats the purpose of the o2 bung then in the piping?

Yeah, only thing quieting mine down would be the resonator. How does it sound though at idle? Im hoping for a pretty deep sound, none of that tin civic ish :P

It just gets me irritated that all these companies make downpipes etc and still have to throw a CEL, I'm sure almost everyone has a CEL, and its accepted by companies since they produce parts to throw the CEL, but I dont know if im up for seeing it on the car all the time.

Anyone have any experience with o2 foolers?

... You just better give up.

The CEL is not because of the catless design, it is the computer saying "OH CRAP MY CAT IS NOT WORKING!!!1111"

Don't waste you time trying to get rid of it, if it bothers you that bad put the cat back on.

you can kill two birds with one stone; installing a high flow cat not only corrrects the CEL issue, but then you'll also no longer be a polluting piece of sh-t f-cktard...

I have a cheapo code reader that can read the CAN fomat the '8 uses. the code appears every third start, IIRC.

I recently bought a (used) Scanalyzer II that stays plugged in to the data port, gives mpg/iat/ambient temp etc, and also resets codes with a few button pushes.

Soon as it lights, I read it and reset it.

Sorry, not a Scanalyzer, it's a ScanGauge.
They are about $169.95
http://www.scangauge.com/buy/index.shtml

I paid about $100, just to see what it did - I leave it hooked up fulltime, and monitor water temp etc.

Might sound a little harsh, but he is right. I recently but my cat back on because the gas smell got overwhelming at times (mainly at red lights). My girlfriend has followed me a few times in her car and would say that the gas smell can get bad at times where it almost makes her eyes water.
With that said, I put the cat on and will be purchasing a high flow cat after the snow season!
