FAO: Those with midpipe and MS CAI

Wanted to ask a question related to those who have a MS CAI and a catless midpipe. Prior to installion of the CAI, I used to get a CEL as expected with my stock air box and also when using my Blitz SUS setup. However, this used to go away after I had on/off the car 5 times or so. It would then come back after a while as expected. However, with the MS CAI, it has come on and even after swiching on/off over 10 times it still remains. I thought soft CELs were supposed to go off after several starts. Anyone noticed the same with theirs?

best bet would be to pull the cel code to determine what is causing it. i have the aem cai (which is virtually identical to the ms cai) and have never had a code that related to the cai.

^Yeah, most people that have a racepipe are going to have a CEL. No CAT = CEL.

i recommend getting a CEL reader so you can see what codes are stored and also reset them. I'll be posting a video shortly of the setup I have using a palm pilot for the interface.

*rolls eyes*

We all do that. Eventually the car figures it out. The first time the car did it in 4 runs, the second time it did it on the second. Now I'm at over a week and it hasn't gone on yet.

I had a CEL off and on for the first ~500 miles with my midpipe (no cat), but after that it went away and hasn't come back. Been over 1k miles now with nothing. No O2 extender or fooler, although if it does come back I have the stuff to make the extender so I'm not worried.

are you cancelling the cel with you canscan or just letting it roll????

and how many ~ cycles does it take to go away?

It came with the pipe (from a member here).
But I have seen them on ebay for like $15 two weeks ago.
Don't see them anymore.

Never cancelled it myself, always just went off on its own.

When it was coming on/off in the first 500 or so miles it was completely random. I had no CEL for about 150 miles when I first put the midpipe on, then it came on, was off next time I turned the car on. Then it went off 100 miles or so later with many startups. Then off/on all at random times.

It really never followed any certain pattern of starting up or anything. Sometimes it would come on or go off while I was driving even.

Mine used to go on/off after 5 starts when I had the Blitz intake and decat, but since installing the MS CAI it never goes off. I remember with my Celica you could read codes by using two wires and counting the number of times the CEL blinked, can I do similar with my RX-8? Anyone recommend me a decent way of reading the codes, are their any PDA software available with appropratie OBD harness?

canscan works with pda. I have a black and white palm right now, in a few days I'll have a color palm in my hands, and I'll take a video of it...

I'm using the rx7store resonated/catless midpipe. An "extender" just moves the O2 out of the stream of exhaust gases so it does not get hit by and detect all the unburnt fuel.
