Exhaust Questions??

I've searched and was not able to find the info. Seems like many of the links to past threads do not work.

Anyway, has anyone had (or is anyone aware of) any bumper melting issues with the Greddy exhaust?

And, could someone post a link for a Tanabe Exhaust clip please?

Thanks in advance

The Greddy Exhaust could melt AFTERMARKET (including MazdaSpeed) rear bumpers. I do not know of any issues with the stock one

I think any exhaust could. I have the MS exhaust and the heat that comes out of it is VERY hot.

It's been said a ton on this forum, you need about 1 inch all the way around and the tip should stick out past the bumper.

Thanks for the responses guys! Comparatively speaking I think the greddy's tip comes out about the same as most others right?? The width appears to be the major difference between greddy and the others.

HI Senna. I've had the Greddy exhaust on my 8 for over 2 years now. No heat issues at all with the stock exhaust shrouds or stock bumper. They look so cozy and perfectly fitted in there.

Poolside--are you satisfied with the greddy's weight, fitment and exhaust note etc.? Any attention from police or Highway Patrol.

Nope.

The Greddy's are the largest tips that I know of.

No attention issues at all. I didn't want 'loud', I wanted 'deep', and Greddy was the answer for me. It is louder than stock when you go WOT. I loved the sound from inside the cabin from the get-go. To this day I don't know 1st hand what it sounds like to others at cruising speed, but I've gotten compliments on club drives etc. It's very far from the loudest one out there, and I do know that 1st hand.

It's bolt-on and fits perfectly centered in the shrouds (no trimming of the shrouds is needed). If you're doing it yourself the worst part will be removing the stock.

Thanks for the pic Expo... but what I meant is they clear the bumper (jut out away) about average. Yes, indeed the width of the tips are huge.

all exhausts should clear stock, except for those made specifically for the specific aftermarket bumper. most exhausts are made around the stock rear to avoid the melting. with aftermarket rears though, melting may occur, especially since greddy's tips are the biggest. i remember someone with the veilside kit having his greddy exhaust start chipping and melting the rear.

Cool!! I'm familiar with the MS, RB, and RE: exhaust notes. Seems to me as if it is louder than the MS and RB exhausts. Which would you say is the loudest you've heard in person?

Lemme try this pic and see if it helps you at all with how far they stick out on/past the bumper: (prior to plate change and de-badged trunk)

I love the Greddy exhaust note, but I don't think I'll be staying with the stock bumper forever...I may need to reconsider.

yes, greddy is loud. It's probably on par with the corksport.

The best note I've personally heard is the racing beat. But I'm also very interested in hearing the hymee and Tanabe Hyper Medalion.

It's just not the same when you hear it over the computer.

I've not had the good fortune to hear the MS. RB was nice, CorkSport is super sounding. B&B is the loudest I've heard; it's quite rude

None the less, I've only received compliments. There are so many to choose from. Since it's not a power gain, the exhaust you choose is purely subjective.

Nice tips. Looks like plenty clearance to me.

I disagree that Greddy is loud compared to CorkSport. But it's all subjective really. After hearing HKS, B&B, CorkSport, RB, Borla etc, I find the Greddy less loud than some others.

I will say that I know someone who installed the CorkSport and there was a need to trim the shrouds for fitting of the exhaust. Zoiks! I've heard the same about Hymee's but can not vouch for that 1st hand.

Senna - if you are going to change out the bumper you may want to reconsider the Greddy. Those tips are huge and the aftermarket rear bumper could be prone to damage.

I'm trying to find a B&B clip. Bummer about the fitment of Greddy with aftermarket kits. It just seems to be a deeper and more distinctive sound than the others. Very subjective is true.

it's either switch exhaust or get different tips welded on. although the tips do change a slight tone in the exhaust note. what rear bumper are you considering?

Probably just the MS kit.

Found a B&B clip: http://www.bbexhaust.com/car/rx8/

Can't say I like it too much.

On second thoughts RB might have to do. I was hoping for some weight savings though.

I hadn't really ruled it out, I just can't find a clip to listen to it. Let me know if you find one.

Thanks for posting that clip. What do you think?? Kinda of similar to Greddy perhaps.
