Exhaust

I am looking to buy an aftermarket exhaust for my 8 (borla, greddy, HKS ect.. ) anyway, i was just wondering (those of you that have aftermarket exhaust systems)
what kind of exhaust you have

how long you have had it,

if your happy with it,

if you noticed anymore horsepower or "Punch", i

f the decible level is too high inside and starts to get anoying,

and if the tone rattles the interior or will rattle the interior to come.

I know this is a lot of questions but my old car had an OBX exhaust system and that thing was soooooo loud and the decible level was so loud it started to get anoying. And even after a while the decible levels were so loud and so low that it started to rattle my interior and everything became loose to where if I hit a pothold then everything would rattle. That was a honda accord and i wasnt too mad that i did that to that car but now i have my 8 and its just so precious to me i dont want the comfortable ride to get anoying.

thanks, JNUT

For more information you should try to run a search about the exhaust you are most interested in.

I've had the RacingBeat exhaust installed for a week and absolutely love it. Around town, the exhaust has a semi-loud deep tone while accelerating and is quiet while cruising. Once in the open and able to wind out the engine (like on a freeway onramp) the exhaust gets louder, but retains it's deep moderate tone. It sounds a lot like a louder version of the stock exhaust without the raspy-ness. While cruising on the freeway, you can barely hear the exhaust in the background.

While sounding amazing, the RacingBeat exhaust is never obnoxious, ricey, droning or hard on the ears; it was RacingBeat's goal to make an exhaust to match the GT $30k nature of the vehicle.

Racing Beat

I just got my Racing Beat yesterday. From what I have read in terms of how loud the exhaust is :

1) Stock
2) Mazda Speed
3) Racing Beat
4) Borla
5) Greddy

In general in the tests conducted by Racing Beat none of the exhausts will get you more than 4 hp. Some even lost hp. It's not really about adding hp, but a better sound, and nicer look of the larger exhaust tips.

Is that rank of 1-5 from loudest to quet? I have the Greddy and there is absolutely no way the Greddy ranks loud. As a matter of fact I chose the Greddy because a) I could get a much lower tone when winding up the band than with stock and b) In no way is this Greddy exhaust loud; it draws no attention. When they installed this at the shop every single person there remarked on how much more quiet the Greddy was than they'd expected. It's low pitched and sounds very smooth; throaty and soothing low. There is hardly an inkling of added volume.

I think it's because Racing Beat is the one who conducted the test. Better have a third-party do a comparo.

In general they have been very fair with their assesment. In fact one of the aftermarket exhausts tested at the same hp as theirs (the other lost hp). So they are not making outrageous claims with massive hp gain from their exhaust system. 3-5 hp seems about right for an NA exhaust on a small engine. Some of the other manufacturers claims of 10-15 hp are very hard to believe. Especially since there have been some pepole with these mods that have dynoed about 2 whp gain, when the company claimed 10 hp from exhaust alone.

poolsidenaz,

The stock exhaust is very quiet, and from what I have heard the Mazdaspeed & Racing Beat were just a little bit louder than the stock setup. I know that many of the people who had the Greddy & Borla with the hi-flow cat & resonator setup from Canzoomer found it way too loud, but much more quiet with the stock exhaust. Don't know about just the cat back though.

I have just the Greddy cat. I've heard both Borla & RB complete set ups, and they're full-boom loud. Great for a track :D

Hey, no problem - I have a Mini-DV camcoder, and it makes it simple to create clips

What is your main reason for wanting an exhaust? That is the main answer you need to consider.

I'd like to say this much about Racing Beat: Where else can you go and read the philosophy behind the design of any particular part made as authored by the designer himself? That's why I bought RB's suspension kit. I went on the website and the nature of the swaybars and springs were accurately portrayed in a short couple of paragraphs. I am happy to say, in my opinion, the descriptions were correct.

I can echo some of the posts about Racing Beat; I have their exhaust, and it's great. Much nicer sound than stock, yet not obnoxious. I do half my driving on the freeway every day and the RB exhaust is never annoying at any rpm. With the windows up and the A/C on, I hardly hear it at freeway speeds; no worse than stock. With the windows down and winding through the gears it sounds great; much better than stock. The car doesn't feel any faster, although it does sound faster (hehehe). And there's no comparison in the looks department; it just blows away the look of the stock exhaust system. :D

I have the Borla and it is pretty loud but I prefer to run the edge of streetability. I was in too much of a rush to wait for the RB exhaust. Still love the Borla, though.

I've got the B&B and love the way it sounds. I don't know if there are any hp gains (very little), but like someone else said it sure SOUNDS faster. And no it is not as loud as some people would have you believe.

I didn't notice too much of a gain with my greddy but take out the cat and you can definately feel the difference.
