ECU w/out rewiring the whole car?
A: Has anybody seen the specs for either the FEED or R Magic ECUs?
B: Can the GReddy e manage be used on the 8 by someone who doesn't have an engineering degree?

Can't answer #1, but I can help on #2.
If you want to try and control ignition timing with the E-manage, it gets REALLY tricky. Installing the E-manage so it can modify the airflow signal is actually not that hard - it's been documented as to which pin is what to tap into. If you are comfortable with very basic automotive wiring, you can hook it up.
Tuning it properly really needs a wideband, or hopefully one of the coming ECU scan tools can interpret the factory wideband for tuning.

Do you know if you can just fool the ecu by running a resistor across the terminals where the factory injectors plug in so that a standalone fuel computer could be wired in directly to the injectors? In other words unplug the injectors from the factory ecu, fool it and then control the injectors off of a new ecu. Is this how everyone is trying it and would this work without the ecu knowing something is wrong? You could do little things with resistors and diodes on the 3rd gen but I've never tried anything at this level. I would think it can be done but is it this easy?

Was going to start a new thread but this one looks good to hijack...mostly because the very first question is almost the one I have
I am looking for ANY info on the Feed ECU for the RX-8
I have found it for sale on a few sites for about $600:
http://www.jt-imports.com/FEED_RX8_Parts_List.htm
http://www.pac-gate.co.jp/feed/rx8.html
So the main questions are...
1: Is this just a ecu with nothing loaded in nv ram or flash able to plug into the RX-8
or
2: Is this a stock RX-8 ecu loaded with the factory settings (and if so for what country or market)
or
3: Is this a modified RX-8 ecu for better performance
I have searched the internet.....and lacking any Japanese reading skills....I have not found anything
And this is the only post I have found with the feed ecu on it.
So does ANYONE have ANY info on the feed ecu….no matter how mundane or seemingly unimportant

sea-rx8,
I e-mailed JT Imports and they're supposed to get back to me with some more info on it. I'll post as soon as I hear back from them.

No warranty!?! And after looking at the site I didn't see any dyno charts or anything what kind of hp is this ECU upgrade suposed to add? And does it cover all rpm ranges and is it compatible with an aftermarket high flow/high temp cat?

The trick will be reproducing the response time that the PCM expects between a variation in the WBO2S readings and a commanded (and circumvented via the stand-alone) change in injector pulse width.

In fact, I've included everything you need to know in the threads that I started about the project.
You just need the basic hand tools and a wideband O2 sensor.

Someone else may be able to explain it better but the ECU is the brain of the car, it controls the fuel mix, spark timing, etc. To my understanding, the stage of the upgrade depends on how many features of the stock ECU are overridden; stage 1-fuel/air stage 2-ignition, and so on.
Yes resulting in added hp.

I recommend that you do a search on google and look up Engine Control Unit. There are plenty of places that discuss what this little box does in your car. It will also help you decide what kinds of modification if any you want to start with. Understanding the electronics of engine management is a good thing for any auto enthusiast.

The CanZoomer Stage 2 might be the way to go... it's a Greddy eManage with a preset map developed by CanZoomer with better A/F and ignition advance than Mazda's stock config. He's also selling it with the programming software and cable for something like ~ $150 additional cost. But this is not for the faint of heart or inexperienced tuner... one wrong step and you can ruin your engine.

Sorry RX8FanMan, didn't realize you were a 16 yo until after I read your profile. It's like there's no matching wits with you because you have to have some to begin with.
