ECU Reflash-Magnuson Moss Warranty?

Hi Guys, I just got this from another forum. Does anyone know about this Magnuson Moss Warranty Act that they mention here? Does that covers anything we do to our ECU's?

""You are bidding on a new 495HP kit for a 01 to present 996 Turbo. These packages have been run on our own cars for over 3 years now. We lead the industry in twin turbo chip tuning and HP packages. Some chips offer a hacked code of the original resulting in HP gains, but losing the drivability or smoothness of the factory setup. In conjunction with that comes often dreaded CEL (Check Engine Lights) and various errors from improper coding. We continue to offer the most stable and factory-like program in the industry. We physically remove the old code from the ECU and introduce new *modified* OEM style Bosch code like the factory. The end result is added fuel, timing, boost, adjusted TB maps and various other thresholds. All of our software and work to the ECU is guaranteed for life. You also will receive updates free of charge for life. These simple yet complicated changes make a real 495 FWHP! (15% loss caculation in DynoJet 248C)

In any kit the other key to adding HP is making sure the other components are matched properly. This kit also includes updated BOV (blow off valves) The factory versions split and leak. Our units are made from Billet and will not fail. Failure of the factory units result in a damaged turbo from foreign object damage. The broken pieces of rubber float through the intake pipe to the turbos destroying them.

The ECU must be sent to us for programming. We will return the unit to you the same day we receive it. All ECU tuning carries a 24 hour turnaround. These products will not void your warranty. You have specific rights under the Federal law "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act" that guarantee you very specific rights

Thank You

First - there's nothing similar that we can do to our ECUs - nobody has cracked the code yet (it's encrypted), but Racing Beat is working on it.

Re Magnuson-Moss - there's lots been written here about it (search...), and on most every other auto enthusiast's forum. A Google search will turn up a gazillion links, but probably the best place to check it out in more detail is at the SEMA web site (Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association, www.sema.org ).

Regards,
Gordon

Ebay is the same place you can buy $29.95 "chips" that will give your RX-8 30 HP. I would not trust the status of my warranty to text posted on Ebay. Also Magnuson-Moss disputes would require getting lawyer$ involved. The Magnuson-Moss act in its simplest form involves after-market parts. Hacking the ECU involves making changes to OEM parts very easy to void your warranty when you do that. A better route would be a replacement ECU backed by the company that sold it. Buying parts off Ebay will not provide you with that. For now it looks like the Canzoomer is the best thing out there but if the dealership finds it problems can result.
