One you can get in the US and the other is only available ias a 300 model special edition in Japan.

There are rumors of a high-power US version... but at the moment they are mostly rumors. Do a search if you want more info.

supposedly you can upgrade your existing rx-8 to MS by buying all the parts, but it's an extremely costly venture since you're double buying parts like clutch, bumpers, etc. A place in south FL was selling a fully upgraded rx-8 MS version for 46k. I personally don't think it's worth it.

minimal. And you can't fully upgrade to MS because it has several factory-only parts... ECU tune, revised VFAD duct and a high-flow cat.

When I bought my 8 last week, Gunther Mazda in Fort Lauderdale had a "Mazdaspeed RX-8" for about $42K sticker (I got have got it for $39 with S-Plan). It had the body kit, wheels and interior bits and pieces, but I don't think it had suspension, exhaust, etc. Very nice and tempting in a non-rational sort of way, but frankly $10K for $4K worth of body and interior goodies plus some overpriced wheels just doesn't seem like a good investment.

Huh? That's still more than the JDM model's price with the minimal engine and suspension additions. Granted that model has no sunroof (not an option in Japan at all) and no leather... but what does a "real" sports car need with leather interior? These people are REALLY trying to rip someone off. I'd just buy a sport package 8, add leather aftermarket if you choose (and other interior bits if you wish)... mainly...get the MS bodykit, your choice of suspension (I'd go RB because .5" drop is enough with this kit on for me), cat-back, CZ cat mid-pipe, CZ box, upcoming HKS intake or RE intake, grounding kit, grounding plug wires... and you'd still come in at just under $35k (you can probably guess my mods...).

Opps forgot to add... MS flywheel. Yeah others are lighter, but I like my warranty and don't want to wait 4 years for the flywheel upgrade.

No,not even close-unless you knew all these dealers.
Truly,you'd come in easily at $40K,unless you're a mechanic/body guy/interior guy/all-around gearhead....to kill the labor prices....and I'm not,so I pay,and dearly....
I'm at $34K+ on my RX8 Sport....here's the list of 'mods, install costs aren't figured in on most, and I paid under sticker for the car,so have a look:
