Was thinking about getting the Mazsport cooling mod but don't like the way it is all or nothing with the fans. The factory setup would be better if you could just trigger it at a lower temp .
One of the aussie guys has an electronic fan controller that looks good also but is expensive & difficult to fit.

Was wondering : the signal from the temp sensor must be a varying voltage to tell the ECU what the temp is . If you could work out what resistor would alter that voltage enough to bring the fans on say 8 deg C earlier , you could just put that in line & there you have it !
Only possible down side could that ECU sees a colder engine at startup ? Any other reason this would not work ?

It kicks both fans on full noise doesn't it ?
The stock setup is more progressive - which would be preferable IMO .

 

No, actually both are not on full noise. Both on at ~90c yes, but there still is a more aggressive stage right before you cook the water jacket seals.

 

Would be nice if you could reprogram the ECU to set it up however you want. :p

 

Can,t see how you have done that with what is in the kit . Does the factory ECU do the 2nd stage ?

Well I got thinking (dangerous for me) & have now done a cooling mod that I think will be pretty good.

It is done through the piggyback I have so not much use to anyone else .

Here is what I did :
Found the wire coming out of the factory ECU that controls cooling fan relay 1 & spliced into it with another wire to my piggyback.

Unfortunately the piggyback does not measure the temp. so I have set it up so it triggers the fans at idle only.

So as soon as I pull up to a stop the fans come on - stopping the heat buildup before it even starts . They wont come on when the engine is cold as it idles at a higher speed . Otherwise the stock factory triggering remains .
If I go to a track day I can easily reprogram so they stay on all the time.

Only just did it so not sure if there will be any other issues yet .

 

Can you explain piggyback? you mean parallel circuit. can you offer a simple diagram, sounds great though...sorry, Me dumb , thanks

 

RB Flash: turns fans on earlier and MORE POWER, too.

 

Piggyback is an aftermarket computer working in series with stock computer. It is designed to enable you to tune the fuel & timing for a turbo/ SC . I use it for N/A tuning . It also has auxillary outputs that can be used for triggering nitrous , water injection etc etc .
It is one of these aux. outputs I have used to trigger the fans.

 

something i've been wondering for quite a while now is, if i am going to get the racing beat pcm flash which turns the fans at a lower temperature, should i still get this cooling fan mod?

 

no - the RB flash does the same thing as the mod - probably better as it is more progressive.
