Cobb and Superchips

sitting waiting for my tires to get put on Tuesday i saw an ad in a car mag about superchips. i thought to myself hey this thing-

looks allot like the one

that i was just looking at on cobbs site.

i wonder if that's just coincidental. but often with electronic items there is one producer making things for multiple vendors and you can tell by the screen/button placement etc that a thing is the same under the skin.

i looked again when i had the tiem and sure enough they looked the same.

then yesterday i got an email from someone in the flash tuning industry that i have been talking with over a couple years. i had asked him on monday (before seeing the ad mind you) if he knew trey and had he heard about cobb's new flash tech for the rx-8 coming soon.

he said in his reply that he heard that cobb had been or was being bought by superchips.

anyone else close to the cobb situ heard this? any mention of this at sema?

It's bs.

I have talked with Trey recently he's giving no indication that cobb is being sold or anything. Granted I didn't specifically ask if he was being bought out, but it doesn't seem likely a man who company is being bought out would still be developing and releasing parts.

By the way for any wondering. release of the AP is set for early next year Feb. March.

there was someone on the forum way back that was supposedly from a Cen. FL company talking about a tuner development for the RX-8, I always assumed it was SuperChimps

Carbon fiber trunk monkey FTW.

The SuperChips rep at SEMA said they had "upgrades for the full line of Mazda vehicles", but couldn't elaborate.
The booth, like many, was completely staffed by ringers.

I think he is referring to people who are hired to do trade shows only. They get all the latest specs/prices on products so they can answer the basic questions for the basic consumer.

Hey guys, we are still here

We have not been bought out, but we have become technology partners with the MSD Group. More information on that can be found on our BLOG. We did design the AccessPORT completely in house, so its merely coincidence that the Superchips unit and the AccessPORT look so similar.

As Bose stated, the RX-8 AccessPORT release is scheduled for the first quarter of 2008.

Anyone that may have visited our booth during SEMA most likely had the opportunity to see the AccessPORT up close. For those who have not seen it yet, here are some new screen shots:

We will most likely be releasing more and more information on our blog page as the release date gets closer, so keep an eye out
