Thanks for the info! I plan on getting the Mazda dealership to install the clutch and flywheel since I know nothing about motors and they'll have the engine out anyway. Could you give me links of the stuff I would have to buy? I want to make sure I get the right thing.

Here are a few links:

Quick question, how many hours do you think it takes a dealer (meaning how many of hours of labor they would rip me off for) to install a clutch? I'm taking my car in because I think my 2nd gear synchro is gone, so if they rebuild or replace my transmission, I'd like to get my ACT clutch installed while the engine is out.

When I talked to the Mazda dealership near me they said it only should take half an hour worth of labor to install a new clutch while the engine is out. They said it normally takes about 4 hours.

[QUOTE=4 years to Supercharge;3174592]I just replaced my clutch with the Centerforce Dual force clutch.

Very smooth and has 90-100% more holding power with a lighter pedal feel than stock (preserves the clutch pedal)

the dual force clutch must be a twin plate clutch, right? if you have up to 100% more holding power than the oem clutch which holds up to 240 lb-ft. that's the only way i can think of that you could still have a lighter than stock pedal feel. so up to 480 lb-ft. on a super light clutch? even if it only held around 300 lb-ft and took less pedal effort, this is the best of both worlds.

Because, unlike other vendors around here, we do not simply "flip" parts with no regard to their efficacy on the RX-8 or their proper operation/installation. When a company refuses to build any of their parts to specifications with which I am comfortable and confident, I drop them as a supplier. As such, I am selecting another supplier for the lightweight clutches we have been offering. Things are improving already.

BHR not only sells performance parts for the Mazda RX-8, we also prefer to act as your guardian of quality and advocate to the original manufacturer in the event ANY problem arises.

We have also corrected many installation issues which have arisen due to lack of experience on part of the installer, whether novice or professional. When professional shops have difficulties, we help them out as much as we do our fellow forum members here on the RX8Club website.

Spoken like a true business man. I can attest that BHR does more than just what's read above not only in my personal experience but by witnessing what they have done for others firsthand. Thanks Ray! When you get done with your daily bitching and gripes about things said on Limbaugh regarding all of the political screwups in AZ give me a call. ;)

got my my act hd clutch (ZM8-HDMM) and act racelite flywheel and stainless steel clutch line from thmotorsports. performance autowerks, plainfield, illinois hooked it all up and what an amazing upgrade! there is a real difference. shifts are quick and precise. and the most shocking part of all was that contrary to what everyone said (that with 330 lb-ft of holding power "there would be only a slight increase in pedal effort."), there was actually less!!! alot less in fact. apparently act has discovered something brilliant called leverage and they've applied this technology to their design! the clutch pedal feel is now easily twice as light! and of course, with the lighter flywheel, it feels as if i just had a fresh renesis dropped in my 8 and does not noticeably require any extra effort engauging 1st gear from a stop. by far the best mod i've made yet to an rx-8 over intake, catback and even midpipe.
