I found a local guy selling a high flow cat from SR motorsports for rather cheap. He says it is brand new and he sold the car before he could install it.
From what I found searching this site is there are very few threads about the SR high flow cat, but the people who bought it liked it. But that thread was several years old and I figure I should check into the longevity of the cat--how does it perform several years (and miles) after install? Any reviews will be helpful! Most likely it's going to do like almost all other hi-flow cats out there. You'll get a couple years out of it before it burns out.

I am very green in this forum. I had a new engine installed. Then my coils etc needed changing. Now they say my CAT what options do I have. I live in Spain and am unsure of emissions etc?

Since you live in Spain your emission rules should be pretty similar to ours over here.
I had RX8s pass tests with Brain catalyzers (200cpsi, they don't last long though), Re Amemiya's catalyzed midpipe and HJS racing cats. If price is not a problem i'd get a HJS catalytic converter. TeamRX8 might remember the part number so try sending him a private message! |
Thanks price is an issue as have just spent 7000 euro on engine then 500 USD on coils etc replacement?

The HJS should cost around 800\1000€ and has to be welded on your midpipe. |

I've said it other places, but my 3" inlet/outlet $100 Magnaflow #59959 metallic-substrate cat has lasted 20,000 miles of hard driving so far. No CEL and no stink, but I have no idea if it will pass a sniffer test, or if it's legal anywhere in the EU. They offer similar models with the smaller pipe size as well.

^ No, they are weld-in units, so you'd have some custom work to do. Cheapest would be to cut out the stock cat and weld the new one in, or do something like I did: weld it into an aftermarket "straight" midpipe. You'd want a resonator too.
Magnaflow does sell a bolt in "49-state" replacement for around $650, that will likely pass a sniffer test and looks stock. I have no experience regarding lifetime, though it's a ceramic type and thus may not survive a modified engine or sustained track use. Anyone use Racing Beat? Got my hands on one of their Dual Resonator Catless midpipe Prototypes will let everyone know how it goes once it arrives and I get it hooked up. I know they are bolt on and the DR midpipe is 373. and the straight pipe is 276 i believe. The website says it will set off the check engine light but we shall see. If anyone has more experience with them please chime in.

I know many people use racing beat I was specifically asking this thread if any of the recent contributors use the DR midpipe not posing a question for the entirety of the website.

It's a decent midpipe that weighs more than it should and has the wrong kind of silencers.
It also needs 2 silencers to achieve what other brands do with 1. It has no benefits when compared to a good 100cpsi catalyzer, it acqually weighs more. |
Thank you for the info the prototype I got was used for sound testing and the silencers are hollowed out which sounds pointless but believe it or not it was what I was looking for. I don't have emissions testing so I wanted something that was as free flowing as possible. Stumbled upon the prototype and said yippy

Yes I am good to know there are other rotaries other than the two on base. Yes I know Italy does emissions tests but they didn't check mine on base when I registered my car either way I am keeping my cat. And my home state doesn't either

so if a cat is bad...will it cause like a jumping in the car when you hit 4000 RPMs?
ive been to manny forums and it seems like its the cat and coils/plugs but that can get real costy and dont wanna spend 1g on something that doesnt fix the problem i have a 2004 Rx8 grand touring manual with racing beat intake and exhaust. |
