Magnaflow now sells a 49 state legal resonated cat pipe assembly, not cheap either
http://www.magnaflow.com/02catalytic...irectfit=49150 technically neither the Davesport or HJS cats meet EPA legal requirements. They are intended for off-road use only. My own view is any cat that doesn't trip a CEL flag is better than none at all, the EPA be damned. . . |

In regards to the rx7store cat. I have one and spoke with them before purchasing. When they originally released the cat / midpipe combination it came with the Magnaflow cat. However they had alot of problems with this cat failing so switched to the Davesport. They told me they haven't had one come back since. This was the deciding factor for me when I was comparing the rx7store cat to the RP.
Of all the ones we have sold we have only had a couple call about them failing and they were on car running turbos, which if untuned can kill a cat pretty fast. |
Burns Stainless debuted a new metal cat converter/muffler combination at the PRI show in December, but I haven't seen any specs or other info on it yet

Great thread..thanks for taking the time to put all the info in one place.
I'm trying to decide between the RP supercat and the RX7store cat... who can point me to the more reliable one? |
hate to say it but don't go with the RP supercat.
I've had two go bad on me... |
I know its not part of your original 2 but a lot of people are having good results from the davesport cat. Bhr makes a good midpipe that includes this cat.

You would have to buy a universal one and weld it into a midpipe.
|
can't say how well it will or won't work/last
http://www.easterncatalytic.com/prod...erformance.php they also sell an RX-8 specific universal cat (edit: it's the bullet cat linked above) and supposedly are working on a complete RX-8 replacement cat pipe assembly if you search the application guide on the site, maybe an option but I have no direct experience, somebody has to be the guinea pig .... . |

What I don't understand is why BHR changed on there site that the Dave sport is not intended for turbo application? Essentially When they didn't have it on the site earlier on?

^^IMO it is too small WRT area for rotary NA let alone FI, the HJS cat I have on my NA car is over 5.6" OD, overkill but certainly suitable for 400+ hp FI apps, the HJS motorsport cats now have a Euro5 wash coating that greatly extends emission efficiency life in the high temp range ( 900+ degC) making it the rotary cat converter of choice IMO

I just went through the "hell" of trying to sort out which replacement cat to get. I had a SR motorsport hi flow cat that just fried.... Long story short the name HJS kept coming up, (modified mag rx8 project car, Charles Hill from BHR recommended it, and saw it here) I thought it was going to be difficult to sort out which one to get and thought that I'd have to contact Germany, but it turns out there is an amazing contact in Florida called HJSNA.
http://www.hjsna.com/pages/Contact.html this will get you to the "contact" page... tell them what car and they'll help you get the right model #. I ordered on line and received it within 3 days. The car runs SO much better and even sounds better. Very good experience and very happy with the outcome. model # info: 9095 0080, $566 w/ free fedex ground shipping in contiental USA. |
Information added, let me know if there is anything else i should add the HJS section.

How did I miss this for the past 7-8 months. Adding the link in my newbie thread and in another thread I'm working on.
Fantastic work. |

Definately not for a Forced Induction setup, we came up with conclusion the area surface is just way too small. Some picture of the resonator on BHR mid pipe which is a fair way back stuck with cat material, forgot to take one of the front, but basically blasted the front, and melted remaining. O2 sensor melted aswell. On the side note, the pipe is off and we are wielding on a locally produced 3inch inlet 5inch diameter 200cel Euro II Metallic Cat, retail price 350 AUD, got it at trade for 130 AUD :P . Before you worry about 100cel - 200cel nothing gonna get past a EPA (here in australia anyways) and larger surface area in my believes will always be better, then a tiny 100cel surface area. If that does not work, then we will go with a HJS from Germany that will be around 700 aud |
This is the HJS cat you want for FI; 3" in/out with a 5.67" matrix diameter @ 95% airflow capacity
