cai and water injestion
cai and water injestion
have never owned a cai intake before b/c all of my other cars were turbo and did not need it. So i saw a vid on youtube of an 8 with the aem cai and it looked like it was in between the bumper and radiator. When it rains do you have to worry about the filter element getting wet or is it high enough up that it is not an issue? I searched to no avail. Thank you.
Hey Bro, just to let you kno, all turbo cars have a CAI system. Also have you looked at the Racing Beat w Duct CAI system, the filter is in the engine bay and the duct has holes to help drain the water so you don't have flooding problems.
i was unaware of the cai system on my talon seeing how the filter was damn near attached to the turbo, if you are about the intercooler, that is a charged air cooler not a cai, i tried a search first, if everyone just wants you to search and not post then this would be an archive and not a forum.
yea most trubos have a short ram intake, not cold air. the filter is in the engine compartment.
the aem cold air is ok in the rain, but watch out for puddels they can get you.
also cai and sri dont do squat for the 8 except make noise. not theres anything wrong with that. thats why i probly wil get one. you might get 1-2 HP pending weather.

if the gains are so minimal then why do all the companies say it gives almost 10whp. Is that all hype? I think i will save some $ and just get the new typhoon then if they dont make that much of a diff anyway
I have the AEM CAI, the intake has to be fully submerged for there to be any kind of damage to the engine.... actually in the rain it just gets soaked a little and it sounds really cool...but if you do drive into a puddle that submerges the intake, its your own damn fault that your engine is destroyed cause that just means your stupid! if you think your intake will get submerged then don't drive in it...

I have the Mazdaspeed CAI and about 3 times I have had issues with "water" getting up in my intake. I never have submerged my filter, I believe it has come more from condensation forming inside my intake and on my MAF?. Each time my car has bogged down severely and had a Check Engine light come on. I pulled my Mass Air Flow Sensor and found it to have water on it each time. I simply took it off and blew the water out and let it dry out for a few minutes, reset my CEL lights, and away I went. I always keep a philips head in my glove compartment to remove the MAF in the event this happens again. This happen to anyone else?
what was the cel #. i have been running the revi and duct for i guess 2 years no problem...
if some one has really injested water into the engine natural selection should take care of the problem.. as you have driven into at least 2 ft. of standing, or moving water..
beers

a little water will evaporate before it gets into the combustion chamber, also a little will help u cool the intake charge. Refering to cars that have water injection kits.
U will hydrolock only if you run into a HUGE puddle, other than that it should be fine. If you are really concerned, they have valve systems for aem cais that prevent water injection, but it kind of defeats the purpose of a cold air intake anyways.

I have personally fixed an RX-7 that ingested water in a flood. Took everything apart and poured water out of the intake and exhaust and the intercooler. Drained the engine block. Replaced all fluids and pulled the engine down the street. It eventually started again and came back up to full power! This engine had flood water in it! Rotaries are neat devices.
i was more concerned with problems from the filter element becoming wet. I really dont want to take the front bumper off too, i am lazy. I have a tendency to take things off cars and not remember how to get them back on lol
uh, no again. they do have whats called the air bypass valve, for most of their intake line, but they do not have one that will fit their intake for the rx-8
my AEM came with detailed instructions and the bumper removal and re-installation were quite easy. i wasted more time trying to get off the stock "pipes" off than taking off the bumper, removing the old, installing the new, and putting the bumper back on

So CKay, have you reasearched every turbo car in order to make a statement like this?
