hks hi power being 3" doesn't help you any if you're hooked up to a 2.5" midpipe or flange.

what were your numbers before? we are talking about rx-8s here.. no telling if thats up or down or by how much.

the more i think about it, isnt it all null and void since we are all sucking from the downpipe in turbo applications? does anyone know the ID of the downpipes available?

what part of na dont you understand?

do you have a clue at what the normal na #s are????

got a big cup of fail for you. gfl.

before it did 205 whp. but that was without a cat and with a intercepter x.

and how did this get from a na to down pipe ? wtf????

firstly, i know people get anywhere from 170 to 220 on stock dyno runs, im pretty sure rx-8s suck on the dyno there are tons of posts about it.

and yes i know what NA is.

so lets recap, i asked what your previous number was, since people get a large range of WHP on their 8's i wanted to know what your run was compared to the others.

and one more thing, lets look at my first post shall we?

am by no means an expert on fluid dynamics so i figured i would shoot this one at you guys.

on a tubo application i know the larger the exhaust pipe the better since turbos dont experience the same backpressure issues that NA engines do.

borla is 3in and greddy is 70mm which is ~2.75in the only thing is greddy is a clean Y split into 2 stright mufflers, while borla is a transverse mounting with 2 2.75in pipes.

so is the transverse so much more restrictive that i would be better off with the greddy? mind you i would also have a 3in midpipe.

what wins? a 3in system with mediocre muffler (borla) or 2.75in system with stright shot mufflers (greddy)
thanks...

so next time try not to be an *** about a resonable question

sorry,

the part of downpipe in turbo apps , changed the whole tone of the tread. you asked one question, then went a different direction.

as to me being an ***, well dont read what i write. simple.

as to your other question.

the other rx8 that day did 185 whp, with a cai and no cat..

beers :beeer:

thanks for the apology, text is very bad at portraying emotions. im sure i got carried away
no hard feelings

basically im just trying to figure out a good flow for a turbo application, with a good tradeoff of sound reduction and horsepower. like i said im not into fluid dynamics so i dont know if the downpipe restricts the flow to a certian speed regaurdless of anything after it, or if a larger pipe will still help once the gas expands?

what i have learned is that the midpipe is the biggest culprit of horsepower robbing, and going catless or high flow cat is probably more important to the system than anything elts. so maybe i should just find out how big the downpipe is, and try to get a sright shot system based of that diameter?

all speculation on my end

I've heard the Turbo XS on a turbo 8 and must say that it was the BEST sounding exhaust note I have ever heard coming from an 8. I'm wondering what it sounds like on an N/A. Video and sound clips of exhausts are useless...you don't get even close to the actual exhaust note/tone as you would standing there in person.

I would say listen to mysql....scrap the borla/greddy idea and go Turbo XS for great sound, price, quality and 3" all the way through.

biggest problem in the na stock is the gasket between the header and the cat.

and the same is true with everything until you change that little gasket / donut.

3" midepipe is the way to go.. now sound is the issue. how you control that or dont it where it gets hard.. the dia behind the mid pipe is the last thing i would worry about.
