Borla Exhaust Problem Query

Hi all

I have recently upgraded my exhaust system to 2.75 inch Extractors, 2.75 Inch Metallic Cat (200cel) x1 resonator.

Now the borla exhaust creates a very loud metallic sound when ONLY under load, i have check everywhere for contact points but there is none,

I went to 3 different exhaust shops and they had me on the lift, and listened as i put the exhaust under load, and all 3 came to the same conclusion its the actual muffler.

Now the sound was modest in the beginning now it is very loud, and will continue from 2.5krpm - 8.5rpm.

Borla has said they will replace the exhaust system, however requiring me to send the unit back, from AUS - US for such a large item, i'll be almost looking at the price of buying a new exhaust. And to be frank i don't even think a new unit will fix the solution.

My exhausts shop has all said, it seems that it creates that sound purely due to insufficient packing inside the exhaust, would adding a resonator onto the borla exhaust help in anyway with the sound?

Does any other exhaust owner have the same problem with a hiflow - mid pipe?

Input will be greatly appreciated

Regards
Jason

Well if its the packing inside of the muffler then adding another resonator wouldn't really help much. As far as the sound though, exactly what is it? A rattling type noise? Can you get a sound clip at all? Have someone rev up the car while you try and listen, is it actually coming from the muffler or further up towards the cat?

I guess if the shops have all concluded that it is the packing of the muffler, there isn't much you can do about it. The extra resonator would just muffle the actual exhaust noise a bit, but wouldn't impact the rattling inside the muffler.

Its the exhaust system to 2.75 inch Extractors, 2.75 Inch Metallic Cat (200cel) x1 resonator that you put in.. I did something kind of like this on my old 8. I had a SR midpipe and it made a bad noise so i put on a DR midpipe and it sounded perfect

yes. take off the high low cat or what ever you put on there and then just have a DR midpipe. You will really enjoy the sounds of the borla then

how often do they do emissions checks where you live? if its like every 2 years then you could do the ol' switcheroo before going in.
