I paid $550:

Borla

I installed it today, took about 2 hours including BSing with a friend.

D-san

P.S. It sounds bad ***, not loud and obnoxious, nice and throaty WOT, cruising is about the same as the OE. It makes it easier to hit my shift points too.

Did you leave the tires on to put the exhaust on? I bought mine at the RX8store also.

Yes, I just used a set of ramps, plenty clearance to get under.

Cool The hardest part.....

The worst part of the install wasgetting the ear end up high enough, with ramps, or stands and a trolley jack.

The whole assembly hangs on 'figure 8' rubbers from the body.

Only tools needed where 17mm and 15mm sockets for the clamps, and an 8mm for the little ground strap. Maybe a large screwdriver to pry the rubber hangers on and off. You also need to find a metric nut to hold the old strap on the new stud.

If you can change a wheel, I would say this is no more difficult.

Borla Exhaust...Anyone Have Any Regrets?

For those of you who have purchased the Borla exhaust, do you have any regrets? What would you say the pros and cons would be? Thanks!

No regrets! I have had the system for almost 1200 miles now, and I STILL turn the radio off when I get a chance to "drive" the car, as it sounds so sweet "at work".

If there had to be one drawback, it's that it makes the car that much more noticeable (like I need THAT) around the neighborhood.

Gas mileage has remained the same, but there is extra performance. It's reasonably priced, easy to install, sounds great - I have loved every minute.

Pics of the kit at the location in the signature, if you haven't seen it yet.

No regrets!

Great Sound
Great Looks
Great Price (vividracing.com)
Easy Install

I took my car in for first maint. and new oil pan this morning and the service advisors and several mechanics had to come out and look at the exhaust when they heard me drive in!

edit: Oh yeah -- I amost never listen to the stereo anymore because the music from the exhaust is just too fun :D Roars when you rev it and rumbles low notes when you let off the pedal.

Coming up on 3 weeks now, no regrets... looks good, sounds fantastic, not too loud, not too quiet, and noticably improves performance.

The only down side I've noticed is that the exhaust tips are a little harder to clean. It's hardly worth mentioning, though.

No regreats at all. Love the thing.

I was a bit concerned at first that it might be just a *TINY* bit too loud, but no more. As someone else said in another thread, I think the sound has mellowed with time.

What can I say that has not already been said before?

I have no regrets because it has exceeded my expectations in: sound, aesthetics, and workmanship. The extra gain in power at the upper end is noticeable but no matter what you do there is never enough power!

Does installling the Borla exhaust have any effect on the factory warranty? I'm just wondering if you ever had any engine problems Mazda could deny you the repairs under warranty because you installed an aftermarket exhaust system.

I got this from here http://www.ptuning.com/html/faq.htm But there is indeed a catch!!! Scroll down....

Q. Does installing an aftermarket part, automatically void my vehicle factory warranty? A. NO, According to the Magnusson-Moss Act of 1975 (see below):

The Magnusson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975 protects consumers from such fradulent activity by new car dealers. Under this Act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not void a vehicle manufacturer's orginial warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warrany or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure. The easiest way to check this is to look in your owner's manual under, "what is not covered". Under Magnusson-Moss Act a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before they can deny warranty coverage. If they cannot prove such claim-or offer an explanation- it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission (202.326.3128) administers the Magnusson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law.
However, there is one catch that most of you are not aware of, and I had to deal with this on one car in the past.

If your car is not stock, a dealer service department can simply REFUSE to work on your car for ANY reason. This has nothing to do with warranty, and at any time, the dealer has the right to stop work on the car. Most dealer service departments are independent of Mazda North American Operations.

Surely the dealer will try to work with you, if they did no warranty work, then they would lose money and get a bad rep on forums and communities.

It's just one more thing to be aware of when dealing with aftermarket parts.
