BHR Ignition System: Results/Impressions
On Saturday I went up to the Nurburgring for the day and ran 18 laps (234 miles) on my new BHR coil setup. Before the coil upgrade I would have sluggish power from 7000 to 9000 rpm's, this time the car ran clear up to 9000+ with no problems. I was able to hit 235kmh (146mph) to 240kmh (149 mph) at the end of green hell without any problems either.
I'm very happy with the results even though I did not record any of my laps this time to see if I shaved off any time from previous runs. Just the nature of the car not being sluggish and my top end increasing after the coil upgrade makes me very pleased.
Thank you BHR Team.

Well, the results are in. bse50 nailed it and my hot start issue is due to low compression (155K miles and counting) and, as expected, had nothing to do with my BHR ignition. The ignition is working well and has cleared up my mis-fire CELs. I think that I will live with the hot start until I can't stand it anymore and then have a new engine put in.If anyone experiences any issues with their kit we're happy to help investigate.

My life is complete.
Close but not a record. Been helping this little lady out and she's now really close to 160k.

And it is still running pretty good after giving it some TLC.

got my car back today with new engine the engine mounts and clutch pedal asssembly its like a new car honestly mazda put my bhr ignition back in on this engine as well and everything is working awesome
Just a quick update, i've been driving to school out east were people drive fast. Cops don't care because they are too busy trying to get the HOV people. With speeds crusing close to 80mph this thing is at home! I feel the harder i drive these coils the better they get. I think I'll do the plugs this weekend as it promises good weather. Do you guys suggest changing plugs every 25k? How long should the NGK's last?
sssspeedfreak: plug wear is an interesting thing. It really depends on the condition of your old coils, whether you've flooded your car, and how you drive it.
I've seen plugs look like crap after 15k, I've seen others look pretty damn good at 50k.
I change mine out every 18 months or so just because I'm a maintenance freak.

Ha Ha..............I'll let'em go about 12-15k, but then I change them. I'm just over 20k miles, so I'm only on my second set. Keep the old ones for any possible emergencies.
only way to know for sure this, is installing a fresh set of plugs when mounting the BHR kit.... I wont doubt they'll last 25k over...
I clean my plugs every 5k, and change them each 15k.... that's just me....hate to feel my car stalling cause of plugs.... with this iginition kit, after reading plenty of posts, I can be satisfied it will help the plugs last longer.....
BTW.. almost done repairing my car.... it's been a nightmare finding parts... any chance someone knows or has the Engine Under Cover that protects the radiator ? it's all I need....PM me...
Rgds,
Joseph

Joseph, you talking the undercover tray(which is plastic), or the OEM screen which is metal and bolts to the radiator(I think?). If the metal screen, I have one just sitting in my garage.

One of the things I noticed after KIT installation:
-Starting the car took barely 1 crank the first 2 weeks, it was awesome. Now, it's starting to take longer. (but this already happened to me before installing the kit, whenever i changed my coils/sparks... I always had a very quick 'performance' detoriation on startup. like if something is causing maybe the sparks to foul pre-maturaly/very quickly)
-At low RPM, 1000-2500, the car is still very 'shacky' which makes it almost impossible to drive slowly in a parking lot or in traffic.
Am I the only one having these symptoms?
(and Im not blaming the kit at all, I had these problems before installing it.. but the kit didnt really help, that's all).

Throttle body, no idea. Best way to check?
Cold/Hot its always shacky in 1st and 2gear under 3K RPM. I believe I have the latest flash version from Mazda (at least, this is what I ve been told)
Throttle body - take off intake; should look copper and operate smoothly- if all gunky clean it out.
I know this is a little OT, but it relates to the above post. I asked them to inspect the motor mounts and clutch assembly while the engine was out. The service manager told me that even though I had the old style mounts, Mazda would not replace them per the TSB. Should I fight that?
Also, he said that my clutch was about "50% worn" (who knows if that was just an eyeball inspection, or if they actually measured anything). But he quoted me like $780 for a new one! And here, fannin gets the clutch assembly AND the mounts replaced voluntarily, under warranty. My car is under warranty too, but he said Mazda is not letting him replace normal wear items any longer (or even TSB items). I just don't get how one dealership can have these restrictions, while another does not.

I noticed that when I replaced my coils the shifter completely stopped shaking. Now 2,000 miles later its back again.
The ignition kit helped alot at first, but now its back to square one. I think perhaps its a tuning issue.
I have the same problems. It is really evident in stop and go traffic.

I also had better results the first weeks then started to detoriate...
For the first time since I owe the car, at a stop light, engine rev dropped to 200RPM and almost died before it compensated and went back to 1000RPM. Never happened before... Out of no where.
I wonder...
