Best way to make rx8's faster?

Well first i would like to point out im aware that an rx8 is not meant to be the fastest car, however i would just simply like to tune mine a little to keep up with my friends who are running with lancer evo's and wrx's. I hear a new air intake is a good frist step any other inputs?

-please excuse the fact this is in the wrong forum i havnt really posted in the other sections as much so i would rather post it here if anyone has a problem with it being here ill ask an admin to remove it.

Thanks for your time
-Ryan

you wouldnt even come close keeping up with them right now even with the current mods.

If you want some hp, best bang is CZ Stage 1, then intake, exhaust. thats about it really.

**OR DECALS, heard they give u +15 hp!**

In this order:

- Canzoomer Stage 1.X *
- Canzoomer MidP-4 high flow cat + resonator
- Mazdaspeed or other lightened flywheel
- Borla or other aftermarket catback exhaust
- Rotary Extreme short ram intake, if you're willing to re-tune your CZ St1.X *

then wait for forced induction kits to come out. None of the above will allow you to beat WRXs or EVOs, but FI will. Note that the ones marked with a * will be useless if you add FI, so you might want to hold off on them.

ecu modifications is always a good first mod and its easy, like omicron listed i recommend the cz 1.1 first and replace your cat with a midpipe and high flow cat beware though its supposedly a lot louder.

Sameless plug...

I have a CZ1.1 available for sale and immediate shipping. I will give you a very noticable increase in power.

In my opinion the RX-8 doesn't need to compete with WRXs and Evos.
If you want a toy, then get a WRX or Evo...if you want a REAL car, get an RX-8.

I can even keep up with a Porsche Boxster S in the track... ic... you mean in the straight. That is not where the fun of the car is.

I am sure as Mr Marvel said you are in the wrong car if you think power as mods. I am sure there are many ways to increase power to 300ps plus (there is forced induction kit out already Omi) but hey are they destroying the characteristics of the car when they do that?!

I like RX-8 because it handles well and continue to make it perfect. Power ... it is enough - if I can nail that corner to come out with a ok rev then I can keep up with any stock STi.... a bold statement I know

any mods out now will only marginally make your car faster.

The exhaust systems out don't seem to make much HP gains, and the intakes out don't really do much either. The Canzoomer upgrade supposedly can give up to 25-30 HP increases, but many people say it is a gain across the power band is sort of hard to notice.

If you want REAL gains, wait until some type of FI comes out. Otherwise you might be throwing your money away.

FI = forced induction.
Turbocharger/Supercharger

There are currently no proven kits for sale but prices appear to run anywhere from 3-7000.
SSR and a number of others are working on it, but it'll be a while.

FI

That is why ur friends cars out-class you, their sti and evos have turbochargers, our 8 does not. if you wanted a rotary that had turbo, u could have bought a 3rd generation rx-7. Sequential twin turbos, a club member completed the 1/4 at the track @112 mph. plus you get as good handling as the 8 (if not better).

now if ur friends have the wrk, non-sti model or the lancer, non-evo model, you should be able too run circles around them and it woould be a fairer race (all na), after all, ur not racing against ferrari's are you cause u know ur outclassed.

Er, pull the rotary and drop in a huge V8. The 8 (which I love) is in no way the fastest car out there (straight line), check out the Neon SRT-4 (I know it's still a POS neon, but 0-60 in 5.5 IIRC, it's quicker than a Z4 and 30k cheaper), the STI (dominating the autox scene), and the soon to be released ion redline (just to name a few).

I agree with the above post re FI, we just need to wait. FI may get us competitive. But none successful thus far.

3rd gens are fantastic cars, but 4 seats was a must have/deal breaker for me. Otherwise, late model RX-7 rules!

In a straight line, they always will be faster. AWD and forced induction go well together on a street car. For every $1 you spend in mods, they can make twice as much power with the same money.

I have a question....
If i decide to get a midpipe with high flow cat and res right now... will i have to take it off if i want to get a FI system later on.... when it comes out? Or can i still keep the mid pipe and my borla exhaust and the FI? :D

You'll want a midpipe, high flow cat and catback exhaust for FI. You'll need the extra flow on the exhaust to really get the most performance out of FI, plus, the standard cat will probably get too hot if you have FI.

you could most definitly eat an evo 8 or an sti with the right mods...

Midpipe w/out cat, exhaust bypass system, lower rear end gears, Nitrous, cz chip, intake, pullies, you dont really need exhaust if you get the bypass system, its only like $150 for an electric motor that mounts on your midpipe, and it would completely open the flow of your exhaust, making aftermarket exhaust unnecicary.
