If all you want is a deeper sound you'l get that from the SP2 (which comes with a hanger already). The RP Cat 'should' fit.

Thanks. I want the SP2, but I am concerned about the CEL which my service department warned me about if I get an aftermarket exhaust. He said MS would not cause it, and would not void the warranty on the cat. He said the SP2 would, so if I did get that, may as well get the supercat.

Other than wanting to sell you an MS catback I don't know why the service guys would say that, as none of the aftermarket cat-back exhausts should cause a CEL. Once you start running a high flow cat though, the probability of getting a CEL at some point increases, and if you go with a race pipe a CEL is pretty much guaranteed.

According to a number of folks on this forum, and the folks that sell the RP Supercat, the RP Supercat high-flow will not cause a CEL, and will pass emissions tests. That said I have found high-flow cats for other makes of cars to throw a CEL regardless, so its probably a crap shoot especially over a longer period of time/miles.

The original poster of this thread seemed to have the Supercat paired with the stock catback, but was unhappy with the sound. Anyone else have this combo?

Is there anything you can do about the CEL, besides completely destroying the system to where it will not illuminate at all if other engine failure occurs?

I have heard the MS exhaust in soundclips and it sounds farty. Anyone else have an opinion?

You WILL NOT get a CEL from the GReddy SP2 alone. Chances are that you won't get a CEL from the Supercat, either. Granted, there are one or two who get a CEL from the Supercat, but these usually turn off by themselves. Your dealer is just trying to sell you a Mazdaspeed exhaust. If you're going to spend the money on a catback with a deeper tone, you might as well get 3-5hp out of it as well rather than NONE from the mazdaspeed catback.

I have the SP2 and Supercat - no CEL. There are certain scan tools to find CEL codes and turn them off...but I wouldn't worry about getting any of these if you're getting a Supercat rather than going catless.

EDIT: I also see that your dealer is trying to void your cat warranty because you want a catback. They can't do that - Don't let them. US law states they would have to prove that your catback caused a problem in the cat to make it fail, and they won't be able to do that in this case. That goes for any part you get. The dealer can only void the warranty on the part you replaced, and any other parts that they can prove were faulty from your aftermarket parts. Your cat isn't going to fail just because of the GReddy catback.

I knew I read that somewhere before. Thanks. I guess I could fight it. I think I am going sp2 at least, and maybe a supercat. Any chances of getting flames out the exhaust from my AT with that set up. It would be sweet, but not sure if I want fines.

I have an AT, and if you have the supercat, there's a chance of flames. I don't pop them that often because you need to be driving the car pretty hard to have the flames. I really doubt you'll be getting any fines for flames...just watch your noise level around cops, and you'll be fine.

Sweet. You have this set up on the AT. Is the sound anything like the video clip on RP's website? I realize revs would not be around 9000 rpm of course. I want the aggressive sound, and I am not really concerned about noise as every truck around here has pipes.

Well I've recorded a couple sounds of it, but none have turned out well. My phone/digital camera can't handle how loud the exhaust is, so the sound is distorted. Basically I press play, and it sounds totally different than in person. If you want a deeper tone, I'd say just go for it - you won't regret it. The SP2 is great. Adding the supercat to the SP2 will make it much louder, and a bit raspy.

Personally i like the SP2/supercat combo. It is on the loud side but i like that. If you want something low tone, its not for you. You want a great sound that turns people into rubber-neckers, the SP2/supercat is def for you.
