yeah charles r hill, i've been doing some research. trust me im not gonna do anything untill i have the facts. I was hoping somone would mayb be able to give me a dyno sheet that could show me what kinda hp certin mods get.

And i dont really want to see dyno sheets of some of your cars that make 300+hp cuz thats really not practical for me. Just if you happen to have light mods and a dyno sheet, i'd like to see it.

If "swap in a manual trans" you mean trading in your at for an mt, great. If you actually mean putting in a mt in your current car, let me be the first to say, uh, no.

If absolutely must put a mt in your car, I have one sitting in my attic that I will let go, cheap. Really.

mazdaspeed exhaust is decent, but I would recommend the tanabe exhaust. It's a great bang for the buck (KILLER tone), original, and decently priced! i LOVE mine.

I can take a sound clip for you tomorrow if you want, and I bought mine for 640 shipped from hopupracing.com. I may not have gained a lot of power from it, but it really brings the car to life with it's deep non rice tone that this exhaust provides!

a sound clip would be good. I looked at the site you gave me and i have a dumb question. Is your exhaust the tanabe super medalion? and is it dual exhaust? the reason i ask is because the picture of the exhaust on the website only has a single pipe

You can, but its not like the domestic market ones, a cheap unit, plug in, push a few arrows and your done.

More around the neighborhood of $1.5K

oh boy.....see, u are already lusting over every possible thing u can do to get ur AT faster. That means ultimately u will NOT be satisfied with ur AT 8. You wont dog.
I can see if you just wanna hav a lil fun and throw some small bolt ons on hoping for a little more zip, but now ur here talkin about changin shift settings?

Im not tryin to be mean or a spoil sport but c'mon man, everything i am hearing from you is screaming "MORE POWER!". Its not gonna happen in the AT, no matter how you swing it, short of FI---which means a Turbo or Supercharger.

Right now u sound much like another young soul here (Taj) who had similar delusions when he bought the AT 8. Ask him of his conquests and where he finally wound up. Again, i mean no ill regard, just trying to save u some future grief man. Best of luck.

Jones- if you read my above post, u will figure out that i already decided on a trade in. I thought the programer would be a quick fix until then. I dont like driving an AT. But i saw an rx8 for 10g w/ 45k miles on it and i jumped on it. You cant flame me for that.

and damn 1.5k is too much for a damn programer
I'm def trading in for a white gt MT

But the original question is still the same, best upgrade for the $$$, could be performance or visual.

Im looking into the mazda speed kit, mazda speed exhaust and some 3 piece CF rims

I skipped the AT part but I do have many bolt ons and just recently bought nitrous. I have enjoyed my catback, midpipe, intake, shifter ect. but they havnt exactly done a whole lot, even combined. While I havnt installed my nitrous kit yet, it just came in yesterday so I'll let you know how that goes (assuming I have it installed and working before you've bought your mods). If you want more info on nitrous then look up a couple of Charles R. Hill's threads... plenty of info.

If you're looking for something cheap, quick, simple ect... I'd recommend something like the short shifter once you get your MT (http://www.axialflow.com/products.htm) been satisfied with it and no problems yet. not a power adder but improves the feel of shifting a lot if you ask me.

ok, I finally got my car running again today (ecu was sent back from racing beat). I will 100% recommend the racing beat street flash and AFE short shifter for must have mods for bang for the buck while remaining NA. The powerband has been leveled out and the shifts are much more solid making for a great combination, my car feels a lot different than it did before! i love both and would recommend both to anyone on a budget that wants a noticable difference if not on a dyno, but in the drivers seat.
