We just had an interesting report from a user and need to pass it on.
One of our users had the Delrin pivot basket "melt" on him.
After reserching this we found his switching to Lucus oil in the transmission was the cause. Delrin doesn't melt until 347 degrees F and is happy to work at 200f all day. So the whole thing sounded wierd.
Turns out it was a chemical reaction. SO DON"T USE LUCUS OIL IN YOUR TRANSMISSION.

We do not intend to change to a different material because of this. We are happy with the Delrin it has served well in every other respect.

I'm a little unfamiliar with transmisions, but would a melted pivot basket cause someone to have an extremely hard time trying to shift into gear?

The funny thing is, I was absolutely sure RG posted that. Only when I was about to close the thread did the corner of my eye notice your avatar at the bottom of the thread. Took my three tries to spot your post cause I kept skipping over it sure that it was RG.

I had that happen to my axial flow shifter but I was using OE tranny fluid. Also, i wouldn't really call it melting, it looked like it cracked and seperated. I called them and he said that about 8 or so bad shifters went out. After it broke I put my OE shifter back in and about a week or so later the transmission literally blew up shifting into 2nd at 3krpm but the person I talked to assured me that the delrin falling into there couldn't cause a tranny to fail like that. Axial flow did send me the replacement shifter after I sent them my broken one in only a few days.

Lucas oil? Ever seen those little clear cranky things Lucas puts in the parts stores to show how their oil sticks to the gears? Try turning the crank. Lots of drag.

We did some dyno testing on our shifter karts using various oils. Mobil 1, Castrol Syntech did the best. 80/90 Gear oil cost almost 1 HP. Lucas cost almost 3 HP.

the white ring on my came loose, i dont know if thats related, its not melted, it just slides up. nothing big.

Put a couple of drops of superglue on it. The only thing it does is take up the space between the shaft and the boot.
