Hmm I don't know first time i've worked with the shifter and I got it in ten...

colsole popped right off no problems with the sensitive clip, don't have the seat controls so I only had one of those little buggers to remove on the boot screws which actually ended up easy thanks to reading the DIY before install. Shifter popped right out, short shifter popped right in and everything took half the time to put back together...

hell the longest part of the install was looking for a greaser to be safe with the shifter =P

found that it was hard to engage reverse.. has this been mentioned before? i'm sure it has.. anyway so i called the number at RP and was told to file that edge down a lil bit... so onto installation #2..

aha. i've solved the wire harness clips.. see, i only could find one flat head screwdriver.. and with that, i was trying to get both sides of the harness clips off at the SAME TIME before lifting up.. without a suitable tool, i had used a paperclip and flathead for each side.. not effective.

then i suddenly realized that i could just pry the clips from any one side while lifting up on the harness until the teeth clicks up on the next highest thread.. then zig-zagging my way up, alternating sides until it came out.. duhh.. im stupid =(

ANYWAY.. so i busted out some power tools.. and filed the top part of the reverse lockout tab so that it tapers off.. then used a file to round and smooth the edge.. now, there is no contact with the tab and plate, and thus.. no struggle getting into reverse. Hooray!

I will now use my Jedi Powers to decipher this message:
Translation: Bern has now confirmed to Zoom that there WILL in fact be a SS9!!

Hmmmm....maybe there will be a really cool Super Charged yellow RX-8 there as well.

Unless of course Zoom is just referring to the BYOB bbq that we're throwing at Bern's house...

Just installed my short shifter tonight. The short throws are a big improvement! It is a little harder to get into reverse, anyone else have this issue.

Today I realized that I had already broken the infamous clip on the console by the e-brake when I took off the paneling for my PIE install. It made it much easier to remove the paneling with this clip gone. You wouldnt know it is missing unless you knew it was supposed to be there.

They are all in the hands of the USPO.
Anyone having a problem with reverse can file a little champher on the edge that goes under the lockout plate. Doesn't take much, just a little help to clear the edge when you push down on it.
This is due to the tolerence Mazda has on the hieght of the shifting tower. If it is a little low then you'll have this problem. Turns out that Mazda makes three part numbers of this part. The difference is in how high it is, there are three letter numbers stamped on these. At the factory they match shifter tolerence to the tower. This keeps them from having to scrap parts.
As you can see from the 60 shifters we have here that so far we have only 2 that need a little tuning.
There has been one that was so far out of tolerence that I had to remachine the tab 2mm lower. That was Spice Boys. His must have been one of the letter towers. It is the only one ever to be that way. It was then that Gomez looked it up and found out about the three different part numbers.

Well I got mine today and I was able to install it this evening. Installation was a breeze, I knew what to expect after reading the DIY thread. After I slipped in the AF SS and bolted down the retainer plate, I thought Richard scammed us with a 4 speed shifter. I couldn't find 5th and 6th gear, but after a test run they were there to the right. It takes a little while to get use to it, I also had no problem getting into reverse

Man this shifter is **** man ****! I love the 1-2-3-4 shift, I can now downshift with confidence!
