Auto tranny question...

My girlfriend recently picked up an 05 Grand Touring....with the auto, yes, I know, but she got a great deal on it. Question I have is....is there a computer upgrade, or other, that'll firm up the shifts when shifted manually? When revved near 7,000 before shifting, it'll hold the gear for 2-3 seconds before it'll go ahead and shift to the next. Appreciate the help guys.

Currently there is not a accepted "fix" for this. Keep your eye on the A/T threads (after 7stock) as a local transmission rebuilder and I will be looking into some upgrades to the a/t 4speed trans that will allow for positive shifts and shifts at higher RPMs. He tells me it's do-able but ......... Our trans is "the same as" an earlier 7 trans but may have internals that differ. There are also outside influences (ECU) that may have to overcome.

From a visual inspection, the auto trans, and for that matter the entire drivetrain layout, is almost identical to the auto FD rx-7.

The good news is that the auto in the FD can handle at least 10psi and 250rwhp, some have probably went over 300 with it.

The bad news is that the gearing/shift points really suck. Once you get going it is not so bad...getting going is a different matter entirely. Even with 10psi available from 2000rpm or so onward in the FD, they are a slug from light to light.

A few people dabbled with changes to the FD transmission on rx7club but no one had much interest/success in really building one. I know a guy that had a level 10 built auto that lasted about a month before it died after making some passes at the dragstrip at about 14psi.
